Los Angeles, LA｜Three Korean Pork Spine Stews Compared 🍲

Whenever I crave a meaty, hearty meal, Korean pork spine stew (감자탕) always hits the spot. Here’s my take on three spots in LA / Rowland Heights: 📍 Jang Ga Nae Restaurant Highly recommend their Kimchi Pork Spine Stew—perfect with instant noodles 🍜 Huge portions—even the small pot is too much for two. Their seafood pancake is also good—crispy and nicely charred. 📍 Gamjatop Very Instagram-friendly, but the small pot only had 4 pieces with very little meat. Not as piled-high as the photos suggested, and seasoning was on the lighter side. The steamed egg and ice cream dessert in the set were actually better than the stew itself. 📍 Gam Ja Gol Budget-friendly, with a red-braised flavor profile.😘😁 Portions are generous, and the restaurant is always packed with Korean locals. They also serve BBQ. Only downside: service can be slow when it’s busy.
