Los Angeles｜Baroo: A Fresh and Surprising Korean Delight 🌿🇰🇷

Finally checked out Baroo — one of LA’s trending Korean tasting menu spots — and it did not disappoint! 😝 While it might not yet rival the mature Korean fine dining scene in NYC, the flavors and overall value make it totally worth a visit. ☺️ We tried the non-alcoholic pairing 🍸 and were pleasantly surprised — really enjoyed it! 🥰 Food Highlights: • Started with a unique Cappuccino-style Pumpkin Soup 🎃 paired with crispy nut rice crackers and rice wine cake. An adventurous and layered appetizer — the rice cake even reminded me of Malay sponge cake! 😋 • Next: Scallop 🐚 — super fresh and tender, with crispy rice and tangy seaweed sauce. Refreshing and delicious! • Fried Fish Roll 🐟 (tempura-style). Not my favorite due to the frying, but the shiso leaf inside was fragrant, and wrapping it in lettuce 🥬 added nice texture. Still enjoyable though! 😌 • First Main: Black Cod 🐠 — solid execution. The fish was rich and cooked in a classic Asian style, though the sauce was a bit too salty. • Upgraded the second main to Beef Short Rib 🥩 (instead of pork) — and it was amazing! Tender, melt-in-your-mouth, not greasy at all. Served with fragrant seaweed rice 🍚, XO sauce, and shiso leaves 🍃 — so comforting and satisfying! 😜 But the real star was the Dessert 🍨: Light, creative, and refreshing! Topped with shaved ice, filled with guava ❤️ panna cotta, and sweet potato 🍠 doenjang ice cream — uniquely Korean, not too sweet, and perfectly balanced. Overall, a complete and satisfying meal! In the “Korean fine dining desert” that is California, Baroo brings a fresh, minimalist vibe. Great for friend gatherings — the atmosphere is relaxed and natural.
