Los Angeles|Found a Yakitori Spot with Great Vibes & Flavor!

Haha, I’ve always thought Torrance had more authentic yakitori options in LA, but I kept seeing rave reviews for this place, so I decided to give it a try! First of all—definitely make a reservation! Walk-ins depend heavily on luck, and getting turned away would really mess up your plans. I booked three days ahead for a 5:30 PM Saturday slot—kind of regret not choosing the counter seats though 😅 We ordered a bunch of skewers and some hot sake—perfect with a warm buzz! The Black Cod was my favorite—super tender with great glaze. The Soboro Don was unexpectedly delicious—barely got a bite before my kid finished it all!💕❤️ Sea Bass was also nice, and the grilled Shimeji mushrooms were amazing. Chicken cartilage and beef tongue were consistently good—the tongue was tender with no weird taste, and I’m usually picky about tongue! The only letdown was the beef skewers—weird sauce and not worth the price. Skip those!👌😘 Everything else was solid, and the atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. It felt nostalgic seeing the name "Nanbankan"—reminded me of Nanbantei in Tokyo! So far, my favorite yakitori in LA is Torimatsu, followed by Shinsengumi (Gardena location), and Nanbankan here beats Tori-Shin for me 😄 I’d read some reviews about service issues, but our visit was fine—the owner grandpa was polite. He just seemed worried we’d order too much to finish by 7 PM 😂 Understandable though—the place was packed!
