Los Angeles | Gwen – Michelin One-Star Steakhouse
This meat-focused spot feels surprisingly approachable — affordable and easy to book. We ordered a 16oz New York strip for two. I originally wanted to try the 90-day dry-aged steak, but the smallest size was a whopping 42oz (over 2 lbs), so we passed. The New York strip was tender with a good chew — I’m no steak expert and don’t usually order it, but it was tasty and had no off-flavors. My partner gave it high marks, though! 🥩 Fun detail: after ordering, the server brings a knife box to let you choose your steak knife. I picked the 9.47 (one I’d been eyeing for a while), and my partner chose a cool curved blade. They even share a little story about the knives before you dig in. 🦑 Squid Ink Baby Squid — my favorite dish of the meal! The ink was mixed with Thai chili and topped with crispy bits for extra texture and flavor. 🦞 Lobster Ravioli — honestly too tiny, and I couldn’t really taste the lobster… but it was the Winter Solstice that day, so I guess we technically had dumplings? 😅 🥔 Duck Fat Fried Potatoes — crispy, savory, and totally addictive little potatoes. 🍠 Another side caught my eye because of the chicken skin in the description, but I overlooked the sweet potatoes… so we ended up with a table full of potatoes and yams 😂. The chicken skin stayed crispy even in the creamy sauce, which was flavored with chive yogurt and spicy honey — a nice tangy contrast to cut through the richness. ⭐ Service was a standout — after encountering a lot of “I don’t want to serve you” attitudes in LA, the warmth and attentiveness here really impressed me. Left the tip happily! #HiddenGem #MichelinOneStar #MichelinDining #LosAngeles #LAEats #LATravel #LADining
