Los Angeles | Morihiro β€” My Current Favorite

🌟 Morihiro πŸ“ 3133 Glendale Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90039 πŸ’° By table: $250 / By bar: $350 (pre-tax, drinks not included) πŸ“ Reserve in advance via Tock β€” it’s a bit hard to book! Having tried many omakase spots in LA, this Michelin one-star is my absolute favorite so far. It marks the return of Chef Mori and earned its star in 2021. Every dish in the kaiseki course β€” from concept to ingredients and presentation β€” is crafted with incredible care. Delicate, beautiful, and utterly delicious πŸ˜‹. Chef Mori believes the rice in sushi is crucial and even grows his own blend. Many of the exquisite ceramic pieces used in the restaurant are also handmade by him. Such dedication makes it impossible not to fall in love with the experience. The full omakase runs about two hours, and I highly recommend pairing it with drinks 🍢. I personally love sweet and tangy flavors, so I asked for an off-menu plum wine (photo 3) β€” absolutely divine! Light, refreshing, and perfect for anyone who enjoys a gentler drink. 🍣 Course Breakdown: Before sushi: My favorite was the tofu paired with freshly grated wasabi β€” it literally melted in the mouth πŸ’—. Also loved the appetizer plate with abalone, crab, and savory jelly. Sashimi & sushi: Every piece was flawless β€” perfectly seasoned rice with fresh, sweet fish. The uni came from two different regions, and the tamago was the best I’ve had in LA, hands down. Rich, fluffy, and infused with seafood essence β€” simply perfect πŸ’―. Dessert: One of the strongest dessert performances in any omakase I’ve tried! The market fruit included Japanese melon so memorable it lingers on the palate πŸ‘…. The miso caramel ice cream was also a delight 🍨. Parting gift: We received matcha mochi brownies to take home β€” chewy, flavorful, and full of matcha goodness 🍡. This place truly deserves its Michelin star 🌟 β€” I’d come back in a heartbeat. The service was exceptional, and portions were generous (one of the most satisfying omakase meals I’ve had!). Chef Mori is wonderfully warm and approachable, happy to chat with guests. When he noticed how much I loved the tamago, he gifted me a whole box to take home β€” plus an extra strawberry cake 🍰! A kind and unexpected gesture that made the experience even more special πŸ˜„. #LosAngeles #LAFoodie #Omakase #MichelinStar #MichelinDining #JapaneseCuisine
