Lyon’s Must-Visit: Marché Paul Bocuse 🍷

The history of Marché Paul Bocuse dates back to 1859. It started as an open-air market, moved to its current location in 1971 to become an indoor food market, and was renamed in 2006 after legendary French chef Paul Bocuse—symbolizing Lyon’s deep-rooted culinary culture. 🍽️ Must-eat recommendations at the market! 🥇 Salmon mille-feuille from Rolle 🐟✨ Highly recommended! Fresh salmon layered with homemade cream cheese and thin sponge cake layers. The texture is delicate and melts in your mouth—perfect as an entrée! Their giant GAMBA shrimp 🦐 are also amazing: plump, firm, and already peeled for convenience 👍🏻 🥧 Figure 3: Pâté en Croûte (French meat pie) Many stalls sell this long, rectangular traditional meat pie. The crust is crispy, and the filling blends pork, chicken, and sometimes black truffle or pistachio—offering rich layers of flavor. Personally, I found it a bit heavy and salty, but if you love classic French flavors, give it a try! 🍖 Bellota ham ❤️🐖 Spain’s top Iberian Bellota ham is much more affordable here than in China! It’s rich in flavor with silky, melt-in-your-mouth fat—perfect paired with red wine 🍷 🌭 Brioche aux Saucisses (sausage in brioche) Soft, buttery brioche bread wrapped around savory sausage. Great as a snack or with a cup of coffee ☕️ 🦪 Freshly shucked oysters 🦪 There are several oyster stalls in the market. I tried Chez Lyon—order a half-dozen, shucked on the spot, and enjoy with lemon and bread. The briny, fresh flavor is incredible! Feel free to pick any stall—they all look fantastic. 🍠 Figure 6 recommendation: Black truffle mashed potatoes 🍠 I tried a Mont Blanc for dessert, but it was way too sweet—not recommended… However, the black truffle mashed potatoes are amazing! The truffle flavor is super intense—every bite is packed with that rich, earthy aroma. 🛍️ Market tips ✔ Avoid Mondays—many shops are closed, only a few are open, so it’s not worth a special trip. ✔ Go early! Especially on weekends, it gets crowded. Early mornings mean fresher ingredients and a more relaxed browse. ✔ Bring an insulated bag if you can—handy for keeping cheese and seafood fresh if you’re taking them home 🍷🍽️ #WorldGastronomyCapital #DessertsHealEverything #BellotaHam #FreshOysters #GillardeauOysters #CheeseHeaven #FrenchPateEnCroute #Escargots #BriocheBread
