Lyon | Feasted at the Michelin

🌷🌷I was inspired by Hua Shao 6 to visit Marché Paul Bocuse. I originally thought it was an open-air market, but it’s actually an indoor one. (For those who have been to markets in northern China, it gave me vibes similar to Changchun Zhongdong Grand Market.) This market has a long history in Lyon—it first opened here in 1971, and after a renovation in 2004, it was named after Paul Bocuse, a renowned French chef, with his permission. This is one of the reasons it’s known as a "Michelin-recommended market."🏖️🏖️ The market itself isn’t very large, currently housing 55 vendors. These include restaurants with seating, bars, cafés, and grilled meat shops; counters selling bread, pastries, and prepared foods; as well as stores offering cheese, ham, and poultry. 👀 🌼🌼There are also several restaurants serving Iberian, Middle Eastern, and Italian cuisine. The biggest draws in the market are probably the seafood restaurants. Fresh oysters, sea urchins, shellfish, and various types of shrimp are truly tempting—and these are usually the ones with long lines during meal times. I tried two of them: 1. Chez Léon🌸🌸 - 🦐 Mega Pink Shrimp - €15.4 These giant pink shrimp were absolutely delicious. They were large, with a rich roe filling, and served with mayonnaise. - 🌟 Cooked Scallops toasted with Beurre Blanc - 🌹€22.6 Scallop lovers will definitely adore this dish—it comes with six plump scallop meats. Beurre Blanc is a classic French sauce, literally meaning "white butter sauce."🌈 Made with white wine, white vinegar, shallots, and plenty of butter, it has a rich, complex flavor with a slight tang. The most popular item here is likely the oysters, which come in different origins and brands at varying prices (sold in minimum orders of 6). The various types of clams are also worth trying.😊😊 2. Ecailler Cellerier 👉👈- 🍤 Brown Shrimps - €5.5/50g These tiny brown shrimps are best enjoyed raw, shelled. They have a sweet, firm texture—highly recommended. - 🌟 Sea Urchins - €7 each🍐🎼 The sea urchins were decent but unremarkable; their biggest strength is freshness. - 🌟 Wild Jumbo Shrimp (Homecooked) - €15 Wild giant shrimp. I ordered this to try a different type of shrimp, but it was somewhat underwhelming. - ❗️ This restaurant is slightly cheaper than the previous one. However, I had a little mishap here: neither of the two credit cards I brought from China worked with their card machine. There’s an ATM inside the market, but it couldn’t dispense cash either. 👀👀 In the end, a server took me to another shop, where their card machine processed the payment successfully. So if you plan to eat here, it’s advisable to bring some cash.😍😍 - 👉 The market has numerous cheese and sausage shops—great for picking up souvenirs. - 👉 It’s very close to Lyon’s main train station, just a 10-minute walk away.🌴 - 👉 The coffee in the market is quite average. I also tried macarons from a pastry shop, which were just so-so. So overall, the best reason to visit here is for the seafood.🍊🍊 #WorldGastronomyCapital #Lyon #Food #FoodExploration
