Lyon Desserts | Amazing Reinvented Tarte Tropézienne
I spent last weekend in Lyon to celebrate my birthday—and as expected of a culinary capital, the food was incredible!💕 Let me share Dorner Frères, a pastry shop even Lyonnais rave about. The name gives it away: it’s run by the Dorner brothers, who’ve made a name for themselves in Lyon’s dessert scene.❤️ But once night falls, Lyon lights up. Restaurants and bars hum with energy. We wandered into the old town’s university district, where streets buzzed with young people—vibrant, alive. Outside a bistro, a slim girl leaned against the wall, 😊 waiting for someone. A sky-blue scarf draped loosely around her shoulders, a bag slung casually across her body—effortlessly chic, in that way only Lyon seems to pull off 🧣 Their must-try? Brioche feuilletée façon Tropézienne! It’s a reinvented version of the classic Tarte Tropézienne: they swapped the original brioche base for their own flaky, buttery "puff pastry brioche," and replaced the traditional cream with crème diplomate (diplomat cream)—ultra-smooth, not too sweet, and perfectly balanced. Simple ingredients, but so delicious—even good enough for breakfast with a coffee ☕ I also picked up a Marron-Poire (chestnut-pear) creation. The combination is genius: biscuit marrons (chestnut sponge), pâte sucrée (sweet shortcrust), compotée de poires (poached pear compote), and ganache montée marron (whipped chestnut ganache). Chestnut and pear? A match made in dessert heaven 🍐 For my birthday cake, I chose Prétentieux—everyone loved it, and we polished the whole thing off 🥰 ife is just one big adventure, isn’t it? Lyon, with its quiet afternoons and lively nights, its old stones and young laughter, is a chapter I’m glad to have lived. They sell bread too, but honestly, their pastries outshine it. The shop rolls out seasonal desserts, so there’s always something new to try.
