🎪 Magical Moment: Oxford’s Main Road Turns into a Playground!
Every year, on the first Monday and Tuesday of September, something magical happens on St Giles’ Street in Oxford 🎡✨. Usually a quiet avenue lined with university colleges, the street is closed overnight and transformed into a vibrant carnival—the historic St Giles’ Fair takes over for two days of non-stop fun! 🎢🎉 There are classic fairground snack stalls 🍭🌭, but the real showstoppers are the huge thrill rides that flip and spin people high into the air—dizzying, dazzling, and not for the faint-hearted 😵🎠! The music is loud—heart-thumping, ground-shaking, next-level LOUD 🔥🔊. We had to leave early; even the kids were overwhelmed by the noise and skipped the rides this time. Dating back to the Middle Ages, St Giles’ Fair is one of England’s largest traveling fairs. It began around 1780 as a toy fair 🧸, later evolving into a full-blown carnival with stalls and rides by the 1800s. By 1830, the fair had grown even louder and wilder… And today? Let’s just say it’s louder than ever—probably loud enough to wake the professors resting in the nearby chapels 😅⚰️📢. It makes you wonder… maybe the harder Oxford students study, the harder they play! 🎓🎶 The fair lasts only two days—so play all you can, while you can! 🎪❤️ #LifeInTheUK #Oxford #OxfordUniversity #CarnivalVibes 🎡
