Maine: Portland to Acadia – A Seafood Feast
Here’s a roundup of my favorite (and not-so-favorite) spots for seafood and treats across Maine, plus a Boston bonus! Maine: Portland Area 1️⃣ Eventide Oyster Co. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍 86 Middle St, Portland, ME 04101 The restaurant has elegant, refined decor, but the dishes are not very cost-effective—they’re a bit overpriced for the portion and quality. It’s a nice spot for ambiance, but not the best choice if you’re looking for value. 2️⃣ Bite Into Maine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍 31 Diamond St, Portland, ME 04101 If you want to indulge in lobster, YOU MUST ORDER THEIR LOBSTER ROLLS—highly recommended! We visited two of their locations: This address is a brick-and-mortar restaurant with fast service and indoor seating (perfect for cooler weather). Their other spot is a food truck near Portland Lighthouse. However, the weather has been pretty cold lately, and the food truck only has outdoor seating. That said, the lobster rolls taste just as amazing at both spots 😋—fresh, meaty, and packed with that classic Maine sweetness. 3️⃣ Boone's Fish House & Oyster Room ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 📍 86 Commercial Street Their happy hour runs daily from 3–5 PM, and oysters are only $1.50 each! If you want to feast on fresh oysters without breaking the bank, this is the spot 🦪. The oysters are plump and briny—perfect with a squeeze of lemon. Acadia National Park / Bar Harbor Area 1️⃣ Side Street Cafe ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It’s one of the few restaurants that stays open during the off-season, and the food is solid. Their blueberry pie is extra sweet—it seems to be a local specialty here (see Photos 5–6). While it’s on the sweeter side, it’s a fun taste of Maine’s iconic blueberry treats. Boston Bonus 1️⃣ Tatte Bakery & Cafe | One Boston Place ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Shoutout to my favorite Boston bakery 🩵! Their pastries, sandwiches, and coffee are consistently delicious—whether you’re grabbing a quick breakfast or a leisurely afternoon snack, it never disappoints. PS: A Note on Acadia’s Off-Season Acadia National Park’s off-season runs from December to April. During this time: There are far fewer dining options—many lobster markets and restaurants are closed. The weather is often chilly and unpredictable, creating a moody, almost “Nordic-style melancholy” atmosphere. That said, you can still find fresh seafood if you know where to look—and the quiet, serene vibe offers a totally unique experience compared to the busy summer months 🦞. #MaineFood #AcadiaFood #BostonFood #NorthAmericaTravel #StudyAbroad #FoodRecommendations #PortlandMaine
