🗼 Matsumoto | A Hidden Gem in Japan 🗼
I spent three days and two nights in the small city of Matsumoto in central Japan. But I truly feel that it wasn't enough... If time allowed, I would love to linger here for a whole week! The majestic ancient castle, the clean and aesthetically pleasing commercial streets, the impressive art museums, and the mysterious and tranquil deep mountain hot springs... Because it's off the beaten path and not crowded with tourists, this city truly satisfies all my beautiful fantasies about small towns in Japan! If you're visiting central Japan or traveling along the Rising Dragon Route, take advantage of the low tourist numbers and make a detour to Matsumoto Castle. It definitely won't disappoint you! Here's my three-day, two-night itinerary in Matsumoto for your reference: Day 1: Nagoya - Matsumoto 🏨 Stay: Matsumoto City Main itinerary: 🎨 Matsumoto City Museum of Art Yayoi Kusama, born in Matsumoto, left her best works in the Matsumoto City Museum of Art as a way to give back to her hometown, permanently. These include the yellow pumpkin, dot abstract combination sculptures, and large geometric abstract paintings. With few people and no queues, it's a must-visit! ⚠️ Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so plan your time accordingly. 🏯 Matsumoto Castle One of my favorite ancient Japanese castles, it's especially beautiful in photographs! The admission to the donjon is 700 yen. The steps inside the castle are particularly high, offering a panoramic view of Matsumoto City, making it worth a visit. ⛩️ Yatsurugi Shrine A small shrine located next to Matsumoto Castle. The costs 300 yen, but the calligraphy is not the best. #TravelScenery #TravelWithXiaohongshu #JapanTravel #JapanFreeAndEasy #MatsumotoCityMuseumOfArt #ShirakabaOnsen #MatsumotoCastle #JapanOffTheBeatenPath
