Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe 🕯️🏗️
Designed by Peter Eisenman, this powerful memorial features 2,711 concrete slabs (0-4m tall) spaced just 95cm apart—creating a maze-like experience where visitors must walk alone through the narrow paths. The undulating ground makes the slabs appear to "wave" like a frozen ocean of grief. 💭 The Architect's Vision "There is no goal here...no final understanding to reach. The Holocaust defies comprehension. This is not about memory—it's about feeling lost, displaced...just as they were." Key design elements: 🔹 No symbols or names - Just raw concrete and empty space 🔹 Disorienting slopes - The ground rises and falls unpredictably 🔹 Echoing silence - Sounds warp strangely between the slabs 🌆 Visitor Experience ✔ Walk alone through the corridors (groups naturally separate) ✔ Notice how light/shadow transforms throughout the day ☀️🌙 ✔ The nearby underground museum adds historical context #NeverForget #Berlin #PowerOfDesign #HolocaustMemorial
