Memphis Might Actually Be the Real Chinese Food Deser

UPDATED: Tried Fu Gui based on recommendations! While not mind-blowing, it’s MUCH better than Mulan—at least it tastes like real restaurant-made food! 🍚 The Eight Treasures Rice was pretty good, and I liked the Sichuan-style Osmanthus Fried Rice. The pea shoots were standard garlic flavor. The tofu with shrimp was decent but not super fresh. Kung Pao Chicken was average, but the Cilantro Beef was tasty! 🥢 The ice jelly (Bing Fen) had only peanuts, brown sugar, and berries—simple but authentic tasting. I used to think Nashville was rough for Chinese food, but now I feel it totally beats Memphis 😅… Earlier I went to Mulan (the East location, as suggested by many). After the meal… I was speechless. It’s been a long time since I’ve had Chinese food this underwhelming 😢 Hot & Sour Noodles: The broth was weak and bland, hardly any toppings (not even peanuts… just plain noodles 🍜) Beijing Sauce Shredded Pork: A weird version I’ve never tried—came with duck skin?! 😳 And a side of sauce? Not sure if it was a mistake, but the pork itself was pale and flavorless. Shocking. Sichuan Yellow Beef: Tough, overcooked, and tasted nothing like Sichuan cuisine 🌶️ Some chicken dish with cucumber: The most average one… and it was the best of the meal 🥒 So disappointed I didn’t even take photos. On the bright side—the fruit tea was good! 🍍🍵 Just the right sweetness at 0% sugar. And the rice was nice too. #MemphisEats #ChineseFood #FoodReview #MemphisFood #FoodieStruggles #AuthenticChinese
