Mugu Peak Trail ~ Hiking in Malibu 🥾
August 2025, Saturday. Navigated via Google Maps to Chumash Trailhead, part of Point Mugu State Park. It was a surprisingly cool summer weekend 🌥️. Coastal fog kept rolling in, and even around noon—though sunny—the temperature stayed below 20°C. With the sea breeze blowing, it actually felt a bit chilly! 🌊 The trail isn’t very long, but the elevation gain is quite concentrated. It’s rated as “hard” on AllTrails. Once you reach the loop, it’s best to go clockwise ⏲️—this way you’ll tackle the steepest section (see Image 5) on the way up, which feels easier. From the ridge, you’ll enjoy ocean views on one side 🌊, and views of La Jolla Valley on the other 🌄. ⚠️ This trail had a lot of mosquitoes and bugs this season! We used bug spray but still ended up with a few bites each 🦟. Have you hiked Mugu Peak before? What’s your favorite Malibu trail with a view?
