๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ๐ Nara Heijล Palace ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ๐
Today, at the Heijล Palace ruins, there are not many reconstructed buildings. ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ The reconstructed structures along the central axis include the Suzaku Gate, the Great Dais Hall, and the Great Dais Pavilion, which are equivalent to the Meridian Gate, ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ the Hall of Supreme Harmony, and the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City. ๐ฏโจ However, unlike Chinese palaces, in the first half of the Nara period, ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ the "First Great Dais Courtyard" and the "Central Area" along the central axis were places for handling state affairs, while the "Inner Court" on the east side of the central axis served as the living quarters for royal family members. ๐๏ธ๐ ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ It was only in the latter half of the Nara period that the northern part of the central axis transformed into the "Western Palace" for royal family members. My personal understanding is that it was during this time that they learned from the Chinese palace style of "front court and rear residence," ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ which reflects a more traditional Chinese imperial palace layout. ๐ธ๐บ๐ฟ๐ #HeijoPalace
