🍜 NC Food Diary | A 2-Day Charlotte Eats Tour

A two-day, one-night food trip to Charlotte left me… not so hopeful about this city’s food scene 😅 🍱 Yume A Japanese spot with decent ratings and a small parking lot. Went for the curry rice and tonkotsu ramen I saw recommended online. The curry had too little sauce — by the end, I was scraping the bowl 🍛… though the fried chicken cutlet was pretty good! The tonkotsu broth was scarce and a bit salty, noodles were overly chewy, but the soft-boiled egg was the BEST I’ve ever had 🥚💛. Portions for both mains were kinda small — left me wanting more. Fried oysters were nicely battered with a clear oyster taste 🦪, but the yakitori skewers? TINY. Like, not-even-a-snack tiny. $3 each 😤… Chicken skin skewer was okay, sausage was worse than mini hot dogs. Overall, pretty disappointed. Didn’t even try their Japanese soft-serve — didn’t want to risk more letdowns. 🧸 4.5/10 – Main dishes are passable, but side items aren’t worth it. 🌆 Fahrenheit A popular rooftop restaurant — been before. This time, got takeout and enjoyed it with a movie 🎬🍷! ☕ The Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters Went mainly because they have their own parking (street parking in the city is a pain 😩). Latte wasn’t bitter, but not as aromatic as my boss’s brew 😂. They roast their own beans, but the shop didn’t smell like coffee — weird, right? Pastry was small, and two flavors tasted the same 🥐. 🧸 6/10 – A convenient breakfast stop. Total $18 — nothing memorable. 🦪 The Waterman Fish Bar Wanted to go since last year! Went during happy hour — oysters were only $1.50 each (usually $3–4!). So fresh and flavorful, with just the right natural saltiness — I downed seven in one go 😋🌊! Also tried two “large” Delaware Wilds — less salty, not as tasty. It was my first oyster bar visit, so I didn’t go all out… but next time? Two dozen each, please! The garlic-baked oysters were also delicious 😍🧄! 🧸 9.5/10 – A bit slow on service and slightly pricey, but SO good. 🛒 Harris Teeter A grocery store, but their prepared foods looked (and tasted) pretty nice! 🥡 🍜 Raku Ramen and Sushi Stopped here on the way back in Salem. Ramen plating wasn’t as pretty as last time, and we were too full for sashimi or tempura. Noodles were thin and a bit overcooked — too soft. But the broth was rich and flavorful 🍲✨, way better than Yume! 🧸 8.5/10 – Run by Chinese owners. Cash = no tax, card = tax… interesting 🧐. #CollegeLife #Ramen #Oysters #NorthCarolina #Charlotte #HitOrMiss #SummerEats #NCFoodReview #CharlotteFoodFinds #CharlotteEats #JianBing #NCCharlotteFood #StudyAbroadTips #InternationalStudents #CharlotteNC #TravelUSA #NorthCarolina #NC #CharlotteRestaurantRecommendations #NCRestaurants
