New American Creative Cuisine: Spago, Former 2-Michelin-Star Spot

I’ve eaten at this restaurant before in LA — it once held 2 Michelin stars and is known as a creative, fusion-forward spot blending Italian influences with New American flair. It’s essentially modern Italian by the famous Wolfgang Puck, drawing many fans and foodies. 🍸 Cocktail: Whole Lotta Love (first on the menu) Vodka-based, nicely balanced between sweet and tart — very drinkable. 🦪 Starters: Half-dozen oysters + Tuna Tartare 🍣 The oysters were Kumamoto — super fresh and a pleasant surprise! The Tuna Tartare was a standout — served with shiso leaves and crispy shrimp chips instead of bread. The combo of tuna, avocado, and shiso on shrimp chips was delicious — highly recommend! 🍕 Pizza: Smoked Salmon Pizza This was… unexpected 😅 It came with a ranch-like tangy sauce that didn’t work for me — barely touched it. Not recommended. 🥩 Steak: Wagyu Ribeye Cooked well, but it’s American Wagyu — don’t expect intense marbling or rich buttery flavor. If you’re craving true Japanese-style Wagyu, maybe skip this. Actually, many guests order pasta here — worth a try if you visit again! 🍋 Dessert: Lemon Spike Great for videos — the server cuts it open at the table. Top layer is cream, the yellow shell is chocolate, and inside is cake, cream, and lemon curd. My friend found it too sour and passed, so… I ate the whole thing myself 🤫 Overall, a pleasant experience — watching the fountain while dining was lovely. We were there about an hour and saw the fountain go off 4–5 times. Heaters keep the patio warm, so sit outside — indoors misses the view! Haven’t tried it yet? Give it a go — and make a reservation! #Spago #WolfgangPuck #LAFood #FineDining #NewAmerican #ItalianFusion #LAEats
