New Capitol Hill Spot | A Comforting Gastropub Experience
A friend recommended this new place in Capitol Hill. The chef used to work at Eden Hill. They have their own distillery producing gin and vodka; the drinks are good, and the food is made with care. 🌟 Brie & Butter: The appetizer bread, toasted and served with Brie cheese/garlic butter/-radishes/chili oil. It has a bit of a ‘Laoganma’ dipping sauce vibe; the chili oil and butter are particularly fragrant, the Brie isn’t greasy, and the radishes are refreshing. 🌟 Potato Rosti: The fried potato cake has a crust like a croqueta on the outside with a traditional potato rosti flavor inside, served with a citrus aioli. Topped with salmon roe and orange, a very unusual but delightful combination. 🌟 Lamb Ribs: Delicious, with no shortcuts taken in terms of cooking to achieve tenderness. The herb marinade is very flavorful, with no gamey taste, a lovely herbal aroma, and a sauce with a red wine reduction. Paired with pumpkin, it’s super delicious, reminiscent of candied sweet potato. 💣 Trout Sashimi: Major letdown, too lazy to comment on the taste – it was all fishiness upon entry. 🌟 Dessert Red Velvet: Beets/ice cream/a mess of grainy cereals – a bit too sweet for my taste. TLDR: Great service, ambiance, and drinks. The food is good but has room for improvement. The frequent use of citrus in today’s dishes was a bit tiresome. The fish quality didn’t meet sashimi standards, but everything else was pretty good. Recommend the meat dishes! Gin enthusiasts should try their own gin.
