New Hot Pot & BBQ Spot in Grand Rapids—King Hot Pot and BBQ 🥘

New Hot Pot & BBQ Spot in Grand Rapids—King Hot Pot and BBQ 🥘🥩 I recently found out there’s a new restaurant called King Hot Pot and BBQ in Grand Rapids, which specializes in both hot pot and BBQ. As someone who’s obsessed with both, I couldn’t miss it! I immediately asked friends to go check it out last weekend, and the overall experience was pretty good. Today, I’ll give you a detailed breakdown~ First, let’s talk about the “dual-feast mode” that attracted me the most! The restaurant has special combo pots—one side is bubbling hot pot broth, and the other is a grilling pan for BBQ. No need to struggle with “should I eat hot pot or BBQ today”—you can directly enjoy the joy of “having both”! The price is around $35 per person, which is mid-range for all-you-can-eat-style restaurants in GR. But in addition to the hot pot and BBQ ingredients, the restaurant also serves appetizers (we call them “touxian xiaochi” in Chinese), so the cost-effectiveness is pretty good overall—you won’t feel like you’re losing out~ We went on a Saturday night, and the restaurant was quite busy, but we didn’t wait too long for a table. After sitting down, we first chose the hot pot broth. We ordered a classic spicy broth and tomato broth combo (to accommodate friends who can’t eat spicy food). The spiciness of the spicy broth is adjustable—we went for medium spiciness, which was fragrant but not overwhelming, and it got more flavorful as it boiled. The tomato broth was rich and sweet, with chunks of tomato flesh that you could taste, and it was perfect for boiling vegetables! 🍅 Next was the BBQ part! The waiter brought out pre-marinated meats, including classic options like beef belly, pork collar, chicken wings, and shrimp paste. The meat was fresh—beef belly was especially delicious when grilled until slightly charred. Wrap it in lettuce and garlic slices, and one bite gives you a satisfying burst of fatty aroma~ But you need to control the heat—the grilling pan heats up quickly, and it’s easy to burn the meat if you’re not careful (don’t ask me how I know… it’s a sad story 😭). For appetizers, we chose fried spring rolls and spicy cold wood ear mushrooms. The spring rolls had a crispy outer layer, filled with vegetables and minced meat, and they were appetizing when dipped in sweet and spicy sauce. The cold wood ear mushrooms were sour, spicy, and refreshing, which was just right for cutting through the greasiness—perfect as an appetizer! In addition, the restaurant has a self-service sauce bar and vegetable bar, with common sauces like cilantro, green onions, sesame sauce, and satay sauce. The vegetables are also fresh—you can take as much as you want, so you can “indulge in vegetables freely”~ 🥬 However, there are minor downsides: First, during peak hours, the waiters may be busy, so you need to wait a little to get more broth or change the grilling pan. Second, the texture of some meats (like lamb rolls) isn’t very distinct, and the taste is just so-so. But overall, being able to eat both hot pot and BBQ with appetizers for $35 is already a good deal—it’s suitable for small gatherings with friends or family dinners~ I’d give it a recommendation rating of ⭐⭐⭐ (out of five stars). If you want to have a relaxed, filling meal and don’t want to choose between hot pot and BBQ, this restaurant is definitely worth a try! Next time, I plan to try their sukiyaki broth—I heard it’s good too~ #GrandRapidsFood#HotPotAndBBQ#MichiganFoodie#WeekendDiningPlan
