New Kagawa Prefectural Gymnasium (Under Construction 2) 🏙️

After I got back, I took a look at the competition drawings. 🎢🍃 Among the three finalists who made it to the second round—Sou Fujimoto, Shigeru Ban, and SANAA—all designed something cloud-like. 🌺🌇They created one cloud, two clouds, and three clouds, respectively. 😂 Personally, I prefer an approach like that of Nikken Sekkei or Hiroshi Naito, where a single large structure unifies the entire complex. 🎢🍃 Each part can be used independently, but they can also function together as one large venue. 🌺🌇Maybe the judges thought that the likelihood of hosting multiple events simultaneously was higher than hosting one big event. It seems that 80% of the ideas from the competition proposal were realized. 🎢🍃 Probably due to cost considerations, the originally free-form curved shapes were eventually changed to two circles of different sizes and a rectangle. There are also expansion joints created by the structural separation. 🌇 🌺🌇 Between Sunport and the gymnasium, there's a vast plaza so big it could land a helicopter. (There's actually an administrative building nearby, which might be the real reason for the helicopter landing.) Because of its special function, this plaza can't have any planters, tables, or chairs—it's destined to be a large open space. 🌿 #Takamatsu 🌟✨
