New Mexico Adventure|Spending the Night in a Cold War Missile Silo 🚀

New Mexico Adventure|Spending the Night in a Cold War Missile Silo 🚀💤 During our 9-day Christmas trip through New Mexico, the coolest experience by far was staying overnight in a decommissioned Atlas-F missile silo—a relic of Cold War tensions turned ultra-unique Airbnb! 📍 The Silo: 579 SMS Site 4 History: Built in the 1960s, this was one of many Atlas-F ICBM launch sites (capable of striking the USSR! ☢️). Most were abandoned or buried—but this one near Roswell got a second life. Transformation: Now a private bunker Airbnb, with a 186-foot-deep silo and two-level underground living space. 🔍 The Check-In Experience 1️⃣ Meet Raul: Owner Gary’s onsite expert gives a 2-hour tour (dress warm—it’s outdoors in winter! ❄️). Cold War stories: How crews lived, worked, and stood guard 24/7. Silo mechanics: See the blast doors, launch controls, and eerie depths. 2️⃣ Exploration Time: Roam the bunker’s original equipment and peer into the abyss of the silo. Pro tip: No drones! 🚫 Our DJI Air 3 nearly got lost in the void (186ft = altitude limit!). 💤 Overnight in the Bunker Cozy & quirky: Twin beds (🛏️), full kitchen, and retro vibes—like a Fallout game come to life! 🎮 Raul’s downstairs pad: He stays on-site but won’t disturb you (soundproofing = 👍). ✨ Why It’s Worth It Rare access: Few silos allow overnight stays—this is history you can touch. Roswell combo: Pair it with UFO museums (👽) and desert stargazing. 🌌 Bragging rights: “Yeah, I slept in a nuke silo” >>>> basic hotel stays. #LifeIsAnAdventure #NewMexico #ColdWarHistory #UniqueStays #Roswell
