New Orleans 4-Day & 3-Night Travel Guide
đŚ Compared to Gotham (New York City, often jokingly called a "food desert"), New Orleans has such amazing food! The flavors are totally perfect for people from southern China. I ate oysters until I was fullâtried raw oysters, grilled oysters, and fried oysters, all of them! The spicy crawfish (crayfish) made me feel like I was back in China in an instant. Here are the restaurants I tried: âââââ Big Ezďź Itâs really close to the airportâthis was my first meal right after landing. It was mind-blowingly good! The charcoal-grilled oysters were incredibly fragrant, made with Viet Cajun style and "hot" spiciness. The perfect combination of garlic, cheese, and charcoal grillingâso delicious! The crawfish was spicy and savory; it tasted just like the sauce from fire chicken noodles to me, haha. Highly recommended! ââââ Acme Oyster Houseďź This is a super popular spot among locals, and sure enough, there was a line when I got there. But they said itâd take 30 minutes to wait, and it actually only took around 15 minutes. Their charcoal-grilled oysters were also garlic + cheese flavored, but personally, I thought they werenât as good as Big Ezâs. The ĂŠtouffĂŠe (a creamy Cajun stew) with rice and crawfish tails was a bit salty, but still pretty tasty. The fried alligator meat is worth a try! It tastes like chicken but has a chewier textureâreally good! Recommended! â Willie Mae's NOLAďź Maybe my expectations were too high? I went there because itâs known as the "best fried chicken spot," but the chicken was so greasy I could barely finish it. The crust was indeed super crispy, and the meat was juicy, but the chicken itself had almost no flavorâonly a hint of pepper. After just one piece, I felt stuffed and greasy; by the second piece, my stomach started feeling heavy like it couldnât digest it. I originally planned to go to another spot called Scrotch House, but it was closed the whole time. This is just my personal opinionânot really recommended. âââââ Deanie's Seafood Restaurantďź The raw oysters here were incredibleâthey totally satisfied my craving! The sauce was tomato-mustard flavored. The oysters were plump and fresh, completely clean with no sand at all, and not a hint of fishinessâsmooth and slightly sweet. Pairing them with the tomato-mustard sauce was just so satisfying (one word: awesome)! The fried seafood platter was hugeâwith soft-shell crab, oysters, shrimp, cod, lobster meatballs, and fries. We couldnât finish it at all, and it was delicious! The fried oysters didnât overpower the original fresh taste of the oysters. Highly recommended! ââââ Beignetsďź I randomly tried the iconic beignets at a street-side shop. Basically, theyâre like "sugar-coated fried dough sticks" (similar to Chinese youtiao but dusted with powdered sugar). Pair them with a cup of coffee to cut through the sweetness and greasinessâreally tasty! âââ⨠Lukeďź The reason it only gets 3.5 stars is probably because Iâd been eating oysters every day and lost that "fresh excitement." Personally, I thought their oysters were a bit worse than Deanieâs. Even though the sauce was exactly the same (tomato + mustard), they just didnât have that smooth, satisfying texture. Donât order the scallopsâtheyâre $7 each. I thought theyâd be big, but the scallop meat was tinyâtotal not worth it! The crawfish pasta with spicy sauce was pretty flavorful, though. Dessert: vanilla ice cream with bread puddingâhot and cold together, but a bit too sweet. If Iâd gone during their happy hour on the first day to eat tons of oysters, I probably wouldâve loved it, but by the last day, I was too full to enjoy it, haha. #NewOrleans #NewOrleansTravel #TravelGuide #Oysters #Crawfish #Food #FoodGuide #NewOrleansFood
