New Orleans Solo Trip Mini Guide 🐊
I absolutely love New Orleans—it’s such a great city, and you can have an amazing time even traveling alone! 😊 Below are some of my favorite spots for eating, drinking, and exploring: Fun Places to Visit 🕶️ 1️⃣ Swamp Tour 🔥 This tour is 100% worth it—you won’t regret it! I loved every minute of it. Sitting on the boat, I saw raccoons 🦝, wild boars 🐗, and so many alligators! The boat gets really close to the gators, so you can observe their breathing up close—it’s incredible. The guide’s commentary was also super interesting. Did you know alligator hunting has a specific season? You can only hunt them in September each year! At the end, everyone gets to touch a baby alligator 🐊—the texture is so unique, I definitely recommend trying it. I booked mine with Cajun Pride Swamp Tour, and they offer hotel pickup, which is super convenient. 2️⃣ Oak Alley Plantation Honestly, I don’t really recommend this spot… Other than the iconic oak trees (which are perfect for photos), there’s not much else to see. A friend I was with even joked, “It’s not as interesting as celebrity former residences in China—they even put silver tableware in glass cases for display!” 😂 But if you bring photography gear and a nice outfit, it’s still worth going for photos! The oak trees are truly stunning, and you can even see ships in the distance 🛳️. 3️⃣ Cafe Du Monde ☕️ A must-visit spot that’s cash only! The beignets were way tastier than I expected 😋. If you’re lucky, you might catch a jazz performance—I was fortunate enough to listen to an hour of great jazz there. 4️⃣ French Quarter + Royal Street After coffee, head to the French Quarter for a walk to digest! The colorful little houses are so charming, and there are tons of tarot shops, voodoo stores, and souvenir shops 🛍️. I especially loved Royal Street—I wandered all the way to the Vampire Cafe, and the area was lively the whole time. There are lots of antique shops, art galleries, and vintage stores—super fun to browse. But a heads-up: The Vampire Cafe no longer sells their “blood plasma” cocktails! If you’re a Vampire Diaries fan hoping to (check in) that, you might be disappointed. Delicious Eats 😋🍴 1️⃣ Thaihey This place is so good—I highly recommend the crab fried rice! The tom yum goong (shrimp tom yum soup) 🦐 is also great, and the pumpkin catfish was a nice surprise (it sounds weird, but it’s actually delicious)! Their Thai iced tea comes with a milk cap—so tasty! The staff are all super friendly ❤️🔥, but note that this is more of a Thai fusion spot, so every dish is a bit on the sweet side. 2️⃣ Ruby Slipper Cafe A super popular brunch spot! One perk of traveling alone: You can sit at the bar directly without waiting in line. I ordered an omelet with mushrooms, tomatoes, and shrimp—it was amazing! 3️⃣ Dragos (Check out the last three photos!) This place is also fantastic. Highly recommend the lobster pasta 🦞: The creamy mushroom sauce is absolutely delicious. Second recommendation: Grilled oysters 🦪. Finally, try the fried alligator meat—it’s pretty average (tastes like KFC), but it’s fun to sample for the experience. #NewOrleans
