New Orleans Travel Notes 1/2 ๐บ๏ธ
I came to New Orleans with high expectations for the food, but after a few days, I'm not holding out much hope anymore ๐ . The local cuisine is very heavy and salty, and even some highly-rated restaurants didnโt impress โ and they werenโt cheap either. ๐ฅ Zesty Creole (Jambalaya) Not bad โ good for trying local flavors. The jambalaya was generous with meat but quite salty. Fried alligator tasted like fried chicken ๐๐. Among all the seafood rice dishes, the grilled catfish was the best! ๐ฅ Cafe Beignet Basically a not-fully-risen sugary fried dough. Fine, but not mind-blowing. ๐๏ธ The National WWII Museum (Student $35) ๐ ๐ ฟ๏ธ Parking: 1029 Annunciation St, New Orleans, LA 70130 ($7.5 for 7hr) The museum is huge with lots of thoughtful details โ worth the visit! The 4D film was great too ๐ฌ. ๐ฆช Acme Oyster House Char-grilled oysters were decent but salty. The po'boy (fried seafood sandwich), seafood rice, and fried seafood platter were just okay. ๐ธ 21st Amendment Bar at La Louisiane ๐ Good service, tasty cocktails, and nice live jazz ๐ท. About $13 per cocktail. ๐ฅ Bearcat CBD (Crab Scramble) Very heavy flavors โ even the potatoes looked like braised pork ๐ฅ๐ณ. They automatically add 20% service fee + 3% employee wellness fee for two people โ โบ๏ธ French Quarter โ French Market Nice for casual browsing with lots of souvenir shops. The French Quarter felt safe with visible police presence, but closer to the market, there were more unhoused people around. #NewOrleans #NolaTravel #2025AGU #AGU #TravelDiary #FoodReview #MuseumDay
