Newport, Rhode Island | The Chillest Town on the East Coast 🌊

Last weekend, I visited Newport with my family—and this hidden coastal town totally won us over! It blends historic charm with a laid-back vacation vibe perfectly~ 📍 Must-Visit Itinerary 🏡 The BreakersNewport’s most famous Gilded Age mansion, once the summer villa of the Vanderbilt family. The interior is opulently decorated with gold accents, while the exterior boasts sprawling lawns and ocean views 🏰. There are many other mansions nearby, but they’re quite similar in style. If you want to visit multiple ones, opt for a combo ticket—it even lets you bring one guest for free! Fun fact: The Vanderbilt patriarch only stayed in this summer home a few times. I previously visited the family’s permanent residence, the Baltimore Estate in North Carolina, which was even more stunning. I couldn’t help but wonder—without planes back then, how long did it take to travel from their permanent home to this vacation villa? 🤣 🌊 The Cliff WalkStretching 5.6 kilometers, you can walk a section based on your schedule. One side offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean, and the other is lined with wealthy families’ mansions. We didn’t do the full route—just a short segment—and found a spot where we could walk down to get closer to the sea (it was lovely!).🅿️ Parking: Near 40 Steps Newport 🏞️ Newport TownThe town is filled with unique small shops, cozy cafés, and souvenir stores. If you love vintage items or niche accessories, you’re sure to find treasures here 🛍️! We ate at Luke’s Lobster—with a 4.9-star rating, it lived up to the hype: the lobster and crab were super fresh 😋. Wandering around is delightful when the weather is nice, but parking is extremely hard! All the parking lots were full. Across the street, there’s a raw bar with amazing oysters—unfortunately, we missed their half-price window (12–2 PM, only $1.5 each)! 🤓 On the edge of the town, there’s a super chill harbor filled with yachts ⛵. #NewportRhodeIsland #EastCoastTravel #GildedAgeMansions #CoastalTowns #USATravel
