NIJU London: A Bite of Happiness with Wagyu Beef 🍱
NIJU is a relatively affordable Japanese restaurant under the Endo group, located in Mayfair, London. I booked a slot for the afternoon to try their "Lobster Truffle Rice" and "Wagyu Sukiyaki." Upon arrival, I realized that although sushi is available all day, the dishes I was most excited about were only on the dinner menu... Fortunately, the Afternoon Set's Wagyu Beef Donburi didn't disappoint and offered great value for money. ⚠️ Menu Note: NIJU's menu is divided into lunch, afternoon, and dinner. Afternoon guests cannot order from the dinner menu. Be sure to book your time slot based on the dishes you want to try. ❗️ The Afternoon Menu is attached at the end. 🍽️ Afternoon Set - 2 courses for £32 | 3 courses for £38 - Choose any combination of starters, mains, and desserts; à la carte ordering is not available. 🍞 Snack - Shokupan with Yuzu Butter: A whole small loaf, baked until the outside is crispy and the inside is soft. The yuzu butter adds a subtle, refreshing twist to the richness. My friend and I both loved this. 🥪 🥗 Starters - Tuna Tataki: Thin slices of bluefin tuna, raw, with a perfect balance of the spiciness of wasabi, the saltiness of Parmesan shavings, and the slight sweetness of the fish. My friend said it was delicious. - Grilled Aubergine: Charred on the outside, juicy inside, with a hint of nuttiness from white sesame seeds and a well-balanced, refreshing sauce. 🍚 Main (includes Miso Soup) - Wagyu Beef Gyudon 🌟🌟🌟🌟: Small pieces of Wagyu beef, marinated in a Japanese sauce with a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. The onsen egg adds a creamy texture to the rice, and the pickled ginger provides just the right amount of acidity to cut through the richness. I'd come back just for this dish! 🍨 Dessert - Milk Chocolate Delice: A Valrhona chocolate shell with a hazelnut heart, paired with miso caramel ice cream. The saltiness of the ice cream is surprisingly harmonious, and the overall sweetness is well-controlled. - Chef's Ice Cream: Includes three flavors—black sesame and hojicha (roasted tea) ice creams were particularly good, with a balanced sweetness. 🍣 Sushi (NIJU Style) - NEGITORO GUNKAN: A mixture of tuna paste and crunchy cartilage, with freshly grated wasabi that didn't add much spiciness. The texture was quite odd, and I wouldn't recommend it. - HOTATE Grilled Scallop 👍🏻: The scallop is caramelized on the outside, with a pronounced buttery aroma and a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Delicious! - CHUTORO Medium-Fatty Tuna: Rich in fat, with a more pronounced aroma after being seared. The wasabi is used sparingly, allowing the natural flavor of the fish to shine through. 💰 Bill The final bill for two was £180, averaging £90 per person. The 3-course set for £38 is a great deal and will leave you satisfied. #LondonFood #LondonJapaneseCuisine #LondonExploration
