๐ด Oasis in the Food Desert ๐ด
It's well known that the UK is a food desert. How do food-loving Chinese people survive in this desert? It's through their own hands and the oases hidden within it. Today, I'm sharing a British seafood restaurant called Fishworks๐. ๐ There are three branches of this restaurant in London. I visited the one in Covent Garden, with others near Piccadilly Circus and Marylebone (near Selfridges). Oyster ๐ฆช ๐๐๐ I had my first oyster here, and the combination of vinegar and onion perfectly neutralized the fishy taste, just right. The crispness of the onion bits added a different texture to the process of swallowing the oyster. A few drops of Tabasco add an extra layer of security for those who are afraid of the fishy taste, with a smoky, sour, and spicy flavor that's quite addictive. โ ๏ธ However, oysters are seasonal, and if not in season, they won't be as plump. King Scallops ๐๐๐๐๐ This is my favorite dish here. The scallops are really sweet and tender, and the cooking is just right. Garlic and butter are already a perfect match, and the breadcrumbs soaked in their flavors, after being baked at high temperature in the oven, have a crispy texture. This texture also adds more layers to the dish. The salty fragrance of garlic and butter also neutralizes the slight greasiness from the sweetness of the scallops. Ale-battered fish and chips with halibut fillet/cod fillet ๐๐๐โญ๏ธ Fish and chips, the legendary British "national dish," naturally tastes good. As a lover of carbohydrates and someone with strict requirements for fries, these fries are really something special. The right amount of crispy exterior hides the softness of the potato, and a touch of sea salt brings the flavor to its peak ๐. Really, they are too delicious ๐ญ. โ ๏ธ Gentle reminder: Along with the fish and chips, there's the classic tartar sauce and a pea puree, which is really unpalatable ๐คฎ, so deducting one and a half stars. Pan-fired spinach with garlic and toasted pine nuts ๐๐๐-๐๐๐๐ I first had this at the Piccadilly Circus branch, and the light garlic aroma with the subtle pine nut fragrance really surprised me โผ๏ธ The pine nut fragrance and spinach are surprisingly well-matched. But when I had it the second time at the Covent Garden branch, it didn't have the same wow factor as the first time, so I give it three to four stars.
