πŸš— One-Day Road Trip in Iowa | Exploring Des Moines & Beyond

When I first arrived in the US, I always mixed up Idaho and Iowa – their Chinese names didn’t help either πŸ˜…. This time, while visiting Nebraska, I decided to explore Iowa too! Most attractions are concentrated in the capital, Des Moines. Since it was a holiday, the Capitol building, museums, and art centers were closed, so I focused on outdoor spots instead. Here’s my itinerary: Iowa State Capitol πŸ›οΈ – One of only 10 gold-domed capitols in the US, and the only one with five domes! Though closed, the exterior was impressive. The grounds feature statues of Lincoln and his son, cannons, and a panoramic view of Des Moines. Iowa Women of Achievement Bridge & Robert D. Day Asian Garden πŸŒ‰πŸŽ‹ – Connected sites honoring Iowa’s women and featuring Chinese-inspired elements like zodiac stone pillars, a pavilion, and a flowing water tower. Pappajohn Sculpture Park 🎨 – A downtown park filled with abstract and artistic sculptures, perfect for a stroll and photos. Roseman Bridge πŸŒ‰ – Made famous by the Oscar-winning film The Bridges of Madison County. These covered bridges were historically used for shelter, storage, and conversations – and this one is iconic! Historic Route 66 πŸ›£οΈ – On the way back, I stopped in Missouri to see this legendary road. The quaint towns along the route are full of character, with diners and shops proudly displaying Route 66 signs. Iowa may be underrated, but it’s packed with history, art, and charm! Perfect for a relaxed road trip. #Iowa #DesMoines #RoadTrip #TravelUSA #HiddenGems #Route66 #MidwestAdventure
