One Day Tour in Colombo--Sri Lanka
1️⃣ The gilded Indian temple, Sivasubramania Swami Kovil, may not be widely famous, but when juxtaposed with Colombo's tallest building—the Lotus Tower—it takes on a different aura. Modernity and antiquity blend perfectly here. 2️⃣ This is a streetscape near the hotel where I stayed. Colombo is home to many old buildings left over from the colonial era; the building on the left is the Colombo Young Buddhist Association. 3️⃣ Following Google Maps down a small street, you can see the pink mosque's massive dome from afar. Along the way, people will approach you with the aim of getting you to take a tuk-tuk or visit a tourist spot; it's best not to engage with them. 4️⃣ 5️⃣ The Pink Mosque (Jami-Ul-Alfar), also known as the Red Mosque, is a red and white brick building completed in 1908 and is one of Colombo's landmark buildings. It is said that at the beginning of the 20th century, many sailors arriving in Sri Lanka used it to determine whether they were at the Port of Colombo. Unfortunately, it is closed on weekends. 6️⃣ The most bustling area of Colombo features a modern high-rise residential building, Altair Tower. It's a stark reminder of the vast wealth disparity in Sri Lanka, especially when you consider that the whale-watching crew we met were still using old flip phones. 7️⃣ The largest commercial complex in Colombo, Colombo City Centre Mall, is a one-stop destination for dining, entertainment, and shopping. It's a place where Colombo's affluent and middle classes come to relax and spend their leisure time. If the midday sun is too hot, this is a great place to take a break. There's a decent ice cream shop on the first floor, although it's still not as good as the Gelato in Galle. #Sivasubramania Swami Kovil#Galle#Colombo#Sri lanka#trip diary#travel guide#Sri lanka trip#Sri lanka life
