Highlands Detroit – 71st-Floor Dining with Breathtaking Detroit River Views & Sunset Magic 🌇 Tucked away on the 71st floor of the GM Renaissance Center (400 Renaissance Center, Detroit, MI 48243), Highlands Detroit is way more than just a restaurant—it’s a sensory experience. The second you walk in, you’re hit with sweeping views of the Detroit River, plus the U.S. and Canadian shores stretching out on either side. We arrived around 7 PM, right as the sun started to set, and the vibe turned pure magic—warm golden light, glistening river waters, and that upscale, cozy energy that makes every moment feel special. Here’s why it’s a must-visit for anyone craving great food and unforgettable scenery 🥂 🌉 The View: 71 Floors Up = Postcard-Worthy Scenery Let’s start with the star of the show: the views. Being 71 stories high gives you a bird’s-eye perspective of the Detroit River—watch boats glide by, spot the skylines of Detroit and Windsor (Canada), and if you time it right (like we did!), catch the sunset painting the sky in hues of orange and pink. It’s the kind of backdrop that turns a regular meal into a memory, whether you’re here for a date night, a celebration, or a fancy catch-up with friends. Every window seat is a winner—you won’t want to put your phone down (but trust us, also take a minute to soak it all in!). 🍴 The Food: Ambiance Meets Flavor (Wagyu Beef Tartare Is Non-Negotiable!) Highlands doesn’t just rely on its views—its food holds its own, too. We loved every dish we tried, but the Wagyu Beef Tartare (from the appetizer menu) was a total standout. The texture was silky smooth, the seasoning was perfectly balanced (not too salty, with bright, fresh touches to cut through richness), and it felt indulgent without being heavy. It’s the ideal start to your meal—light enough to leave room for mains, but flavorful enough to set the bar high for the rest of the night. 😋 🚗 Worth the Trip (Even from Ann Arbor!) While it’s in Detroit (not Ann Arbor), the short drive is 100% worth it for the experience. Whether you’re a UMich student looking to treat yourself after exams, or a local wanting to switch up your dining routine, Highlands offers something unique: upscale eats with a view that feels like a mini escape. It’s not just about the food—it’s about the feeling of sitting 71 floors up, watching the sunset over the river, and thinking, “This is pretty amazing.” #AnnArbor #AnnArborLife #UMich #Michigan #UniversityOfMichigan #Detroit #Foodie #SunsetDining #HighRiseRestaurant #FineDiningDetroit
