Philadelphia | Reading Terminal Market Food Recommendations✨
If you’re visiting Philadelphia, Reading Terminal Market is a must-visit spot. During weekday lunch hours, any decently reviewed shop has a line. The crowd consists mostly of local office workers and students. If locals are flocking to a place, you know it’s good! (Note: The market closes in the evening.) Over five days, I tried three Philly steaks, one sandwich, and one ice cream. 🥖 Philly Steak One of Philadelphia’s most famous dishes is the beef sandwich, especially the cheese steak. Thinly sliced, stir-fried beef is piled onto a toasted long roll, along with melted cheese and toppings (usually just onions by default; extra toppings cost more). There’s no extra sauce, and the portion is huge—so big that we always split one between two people. Here’s my personal ranking of the three cheese steaks I tried: By George > Uncle Gus’ Steaks > Down Home Diner ✨ By George (Closed on Sundays) The overall seasoning was the most to my taste. The beef was more fragrant and flavorful, not too salty or greasy. There were several cheese options. The downside was that the bread wasn’t as good as Uncle Gus’—a bit fewer sesame seeds. 👌🏻 Uncle Gus’ Steaks The bread was the best among the three. The sesame seeds were a highlight, giving off a delicious aroma after toasting. The meat quantity was maxed out, with cheese coating every slice of beef, though it didn’t stretch. The seasoning was flavorful but very, very salty for us. By the end, we were overwhelmed by the saltiness. #Philadelphia #PhillyFoodie #Travel #USA #FoodGuide
