Philadelphia Area Food Exploration | A Local’s Mexican Spot
El Chapulin Mexican Restaurant A local white friend married a Latino husband, and their family often drives from West Philadelphia to eat at this hidden gem. It seems like a true authentic place, certified by locals. ⭐️ Fajitas (Mexican Grilled Meat): I’ve ordered this twice. It’s a mix of chicken and beef. The second picture is pure beef. The whole iron plate is brought to the table, with the meat sizzling and full of flavor. The vegetables are slightly charred but still crispy, and they include zucchini. It’s not the typical American-style overcooked or raw vegetables. I was really impressed. They give you several tortillas, a small bowl of rice, and a dish of sour cream. You can roll up your own fajitas, filling them to the brim. Add some leftover Mexican hot sauce from the appetizers, and each bite feels like a soul-lifting experience. The portion is also quite large, enough for two meals. ⭐️ Free Nachos: Pretty good. Not greasy but very crispy. I loved the two dipping sauces. They’re not the sticky, overly sweet ones you find in American bars. Instead, they’re refreshing, savory, and spicy. ⭐️ Flan (Egg Caramel Pudding): Delicious! The downside or upside is that the portion is a bit large. It’s better to share. It might be a bit too sweet (my taste buds are gradually being Americanized, which I don’t want). ⭐️ Horchata: Average. The cup is very authentic, but the drink feels more like water for irrigation. The best horchata I’ve had had a stronger grain flavor, but this one just tastes like sweet cinnamon water. 📍 8901 West Chester Pike, Upper Darby Township, PA 19082, United States #PhillyFood #FoodExploration #HiddenGemsForFoodies
