Colorado is famous for its high-altitude peaks, and Pikes Peak is a favorite among road-trippers! Why? Because you can drive all the way to the summit at 4,300 meters — one of the highest points reachable by car in all of North America. From the top, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains stretching over 100 kilometers. 🌄 To drive your own car to the summit, you’ll need to book online in advance: Ticket: $18 per person Vehicle permit: $2 Make sure to arrive within your reserved time slot! ⏳ The road climbs rapidly — gaining over 2,000 meters in elevation 🏔️. You’ll ascend above the tree line, and the final stretch features sharp hairpin turns, steep drop-offs, and sections without guardrails. Driving here requires both skill and courage! 🚙💨 Due to the rapid altitude gain, altitude sickness is common. Even if you avoid that, the sun at the summit is intense — wear sunscreen! ☀️🧴 Weather is highly unpredictable, with sudden rain showers — check forecasts before you go. 🌦️ ⚠️ Important: Use low gear when descending! Even then, you may need to brake frequently. Brakes can overheat quickly — ours did, and we smelled burning 🛑🔥. Pull over if needed to cool them.
