Play in PA 🇺🇸 | Wissahickon Valley Park 🌿🦆
Pennsylvania is one of my favorite states, not only because my husband is a proud native Pennsylvanian whose love for his hometown has definitely rubbed off on me, but also because I have friends and family scattered all over the state. This gives me the perfect excuse to explore its hidden gems! 😍 This time, staying with my mother-in-law for a month, I spent my weekends visiting parks and charming towns around Philadelphia, and my love for Pennsylvania just keeps growing! ❤️ 🏞️ First Impressions of Wissahickon Valley Park Tucked away in the northwest of Philadelphia, this hidden paradise requires a short downhill walk from the parking area. The moment you catch sight of the stream, stone bridges, and flocks of geese, you’re instantly transported to a tranquil world away from the hustle and bustle. 🌿 The park was once a hub for early German and British settlers and had plenty of industrial activity. As the automotive age took over, it faded into the background and was eventually preserved as a national park. Today, it’s a haven for hikers, cyclists, horseback riders, and photography enthusiasts. 🚴♂️ 🦆 Encounters with Wildlife Along the stream, you’ll often see flocks of Canada Geese (which locals affectionately call "geese"). They stroll around leisurely, foraging for food, with their distinctive white "collars" on their dark necks standing out. The highlight was spotting a Wood Duck for the first time—the male’s iridescent feathers shimmer like rainbows in the sunlight. It’s like something straight out of a fairy tale! 🦆 🏡 Time-Traveling at Valley Green Inn Built in 1850, this stone building was once a resting stop for travelers and is now a riverside restaurant. I highly recommend grabbing a seat facing the stream, ordering their signature sandwich, and soaking in the gentle flowing water and the sounds of geese. It’s also a popular wedding venue, and I’ve heard that happy couples often take photos in front of the century-old stone walls. 🥪 📸 Must-Visit Photo Spots 🏰 Rustic Stone Bridges: The weathered stones tell stories of the past. 🌉 Vibrant Orange Iron Bridge: Perfect for that Instagram-worthy shot. 🏞️ Streamside Viewing Platforms: The best spots for wildlife watching. 📍 Wissahickon Valley Park Address: 200 Northwestern Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128 ⚠️ The park has multiple entrances, but the most convenient one is near Valley Green Inn, perfect for hiking, cycling, and photography. 🏡 Valley Green Inn Address: Valley Green Rd at Wissahickon, Philadelphia, PA 19128 ⚠️ Located along Forbidden Drive, it’s advisable to make a reservation in advance, especially on weekends and holidays. #Philadelphia #NatureLovers #OutdoorAdventures #HiddenGems #WildlifeEncounters #HistoricSpots #PennsylvaniaCharms #WeekendGetaways
