🦞 Portland, Maine: A Lobster Lover’s One-Day Journey

Portland, Maine, was the first stop on my long-weekend trip to Acadia. Here’s the detailed itinerary: 🗓 Day 0: Fly from New York ✈️ to Portland (stay in Portland, Maine)🌟 Day 1: Lobster catching + food tour in Portland; drive 3 hours to Acadia after dinner (stay near Acadia)🗓 Day 2: Hiking in Acadia + sunset at Cadillac Mountain + stargazing at Sand Beach (stay near Acadia)🗓 Day 3: Morning island-loop road trip; fly back to New York from Bangor in the afternoon Portland Attractions: 📍 Portland Head Light: The scenery is nice, but you can skip it if you’re short on time. Next to it is the famous lobster roll stand—Bite into Maine. Prices range from $30 to $40 per roll, which shocked me when I saw the menu. But I thought, “I’m already here,” so I ordered one. It tasted good, but whether it’s worth the price is up to you 🦞. 🚗 Parking Tip: Parking is extremely hard to find on holidays! Portland’s downtown isn’t big, but it gets crowded during holidays, making parking scarce. Street parking costs about $2–$2.5 per hour (max 2 hours); nearby private parking lots often charge $10 per hour. Arrive early—street parking saves you a lot of money, and you can use the savings for more lobster rolls 😋. 🦞 Lobster Catching Experience: Lucky Catch Lobster Tour: Highly recommended! It’s $50 per person for 1.5 hours. You’ll board a boat to haul lobster traps, measure lobsters, bait traps, and drop them back into the sea. The guide shares lots of fun lobster facts—great for families with kids or anyone wanting to learn about local culture 🚤. 🍴 Food Exploration Mode On:1️⃣ Luke’s Lobster Portland Pier: Lobster roll + crab roll = double happiness! Dining by the sea with sea breezes and boat views—amazing vibe 🌊.2️⃣ ISF Trading (Uni): The price is reasonable, but the taste was just okay for me—it’s a “check-the-box” spot 🦀.3️⃣ Twelve Restaurant (Big Letdown): It’s supposedly one of the Top 50 restaurants in the US, but it was the only major disappointment of the trip. Almost all dishes were sour, and the flavor combinations were weird. The only highlight was the service. As a people-pleaser, I smiled and nodded the whole time: “It’s good 😅,” then quietly pushed the food to my partner to finish.
