Portland, ME | A Maine Food Diary
Portland, Maine is such a charming, Nordic-style town—famous as a source of blueberries and Boston lobsters, where the magic of its food lies entirely in the freshness of the ingredients 🦞🫐. Note: All opinions are based on my personal taste—totally subjective, so take them as a reference! Meals 🥢 Miyake | 7/10 - HamayakiThis dish is packed with ingredients: seared scallops, lobster, and squid on top of sushi rice, all drizzled with mayo 🦑. The ingredients themselves are clearly high-quality, but it’s a bit too salty for my liking—otherwise, it would’ve scored higher! Bite into Maine | 8/10 - Lobster RollsNo wonder this spot is loved—you can taste why Maine is famous for lobsters! Tender, sweet lobster meat tucked into a warm, buttery soft bun 🥪. Every bite lingers with that fresh seafood flavor; it’s totally memorable. Eventide Oyster Co. 🦪 | 6/10 - Oyster BunTo sum it up simply: fried oysters served in a steamed bun. The oysters are crispy, but the bun feels a bit plain, and the overall flavor doesn’t “wow” me—decent, but not a must-try. Desserts & Drinks 🍧 Bard Coffee | 5/10 - Nitro Cold BrewIt’s… fine. Smooth like most nitro cold brews, but there’s nothing special about it—no unique notes or richness to make it stand out. Just a basic, passable coffee. Gelato Fiasco | 10/10 - GelatoThis is the best gelato I’ve ever had 🍦! It’s silky, creamy, and so smooth—their dark chocolate flavor is so rich, it tastes like eating pure dark chocolate. The owner is super enthusiastic and proud of their gelato: before we could even ask, they were piling free samples of their favorite flavors on a plate, pointing out the awards on the wall, and showing off the cute, thoughtful art decor around the shop. Such a fun experience! Smiling Hill Farm | 8/10 - Blueberry MilkYou can find this local milk in most supermarkets around town 🥛. It’s thick, sweet, and blended with Portland’s signature blueberries—even if you’re a bit lactose intolerant (like me!), you’ll be tempted to chug a whole bottle. So good! Honeyboba | 6/10 - Boba Milk Tea, Matcha Sugar Cane DrinkThe matcha sugar cane drink is okay—light and refreshing. If you’re craving a casual drink in town, it’s a solid pick, but the boba milk tea is pretty average. Nothing to write home about. Standard Baking Co. | 7/10 - Coffee Cake, Pistachio CookieThis is definitely the most popular bakery in town—even on a rainy day, there was a steady stream of people coming in for bread 🥐. The coffee cake is moist with a crumbly top, and the pistachio cookie has a nice nutty crunch. Both taste great—perfect for a quick snack! #PortlandMaineFood #MaineEats #PortlandFoodDiary
