Portland’s "Food Oscar" Winner

Langbaan: Celebrating Our 1,314th Day Together with James Beard-Awarded Thai Cuisine ❤️ Me: "Our 1,314th day together is almost here!" Monkey 🐒 (a Pisces, thank goodness he gets the vibe): "The 1,314th day of dating is a holiday too?!?" Luckily, he totally got it—booked this restaurant right away to take me celebrate 😂! He picked Langbaan, the winner of the 2024 James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant! We’d been to Phuket Cafe (a local spot we love) so many times before… and turns out, these two spots are actually the same restaurant! 😱 Every dish at Phuket Cafe is delicious—we even love bringing friends from out of state there to show off Portland’s unique dining scene. To break it down: Both spots share the same chef and team. If you want a casual vibe—grab a drink, order a few small plates—go for Phuket Cafe. But if you’re after a fancy, curated experience (think set menu magic), Langbaan is the one to book 🍽️! I absolutely loved the restaurant’s vibe. Every little detail—from the tableware and background music to the service, even the lemongrass-scented hand towels—was packed with rich Thai charm 🌿. You can really tell how much thought they put into making guests feel like they’re stepping into a cozy Thai escape. The set menu has 12 courses total, including dessert—and every single one was incredible. Fresh, surprising, and full of flavor. I couldn’t pick a favorite because I loved them all! It’s Thai food, but with such unique, creative twists—nothing like the usual Thai takeout you get 😍. For drinks, Monkey ordered a Gewürztraminer (white wine) and a Beaujolais (red wine)—both were on the sweeter side. We guessed maybe sweeter wines pair better with Thai food? Either way, they were delicious and went perfectly with every course 🍷! No wonder this place won "Outstanding Restaurant"—even thinking back on it now, my taste buds are still craving those dishes. Thank you, Monkey 🐒! 📌 Pro Tips: Tasting menu: $135 per person, plus 20% gratuity. 🚨 Book in advance! It’s super popular—no last-minute spots here. 🚨 No on-site parking, and 23rd Street is so hard to find street parking. Arrive early to take your time hunting for a spot 🅿️! #PortlandRestaurants #PortlandFoodie #PortlandThaiFood #LangbaanPortland #Langbaan #PortlandTravel #JamesBeardAwards #HiddenGemPortland #PortlandEats #PortlandDining
