Portland’s LeChon Is Actually So Delicious 😋
I ordered a few dishes hyped on Xiaohongshu, and every bite brought a different surprise: Foraged Mushrooms 🍄: This was totally the “refreshing star”! The wild mushrooms were tender but not mushy, with a slight chew. They sat on a piece of bread (crispy outside, soft inside), topped with a runny-yolk egg. Poke the egg with a knife, and the golden yolk coats the mushrooms and bread — one bite has the umami of mushrooms and the silkiness of egg, no greasiness left in your mouth. Perfect to prep your palate for the heartier dishes later. Beef Carpaccio (Raw Beef) 🥩: The server wasn’t lying — this raw beef was amazing! Sliced thin and even, it was kept fresh on an ice plate, topped with tiny herb shreds and a splash of citrus juice. Zero fishiness at all. Pick up a slice with a fork and pop it in your mouth — the meat is so tender it barely needs chewing, and the citrus’s mild tartness balances the meat’s richness. Even my friend, who’s usually wary of raw meat, couldn’t help eating a few more bites, saying, “I never knew raw beef could be this fresh!” 😲 Smoked Bone Marrow 🦴: This was the only minor letdown. The marrow was definitely fragrant when roasted — scoop a spoonful, and it’s melty and oily. Eat it with the accompanying flatbread, and the first bite makes you go “wow, so rich!” But after a couple more bites, the greasiness hits hard — I drank half a glass of lemon water and still couldn’t shake it. Compared to the other amazing dishes, this one’s totally unnecessary. Save your stomach for better things! Steak 🥩✨: I got the medium-rare steak — when it arrived, the outside still had a light char, and when I cut into it, pink juice dripped down the knife. So appetizing! The seasoning was super simple — just salt and black pepper — but it let the beef’s natural milky flavor shine. Crispy outside, tender inside, every bite was juicy. Even the grilled bell peppers on the side soaked up the beef’s aroma — I couldn’t help licking my lips after eating! 😋 Grilled Octopus 🐙: The octopus legs were the perfect size — slightly charred outside, with a “crunch” when you bite down, but the inside was chewy and not rubbery. No tough fibers at all! The accompanying sauce was lemon-garlic flavored — tangy and fresh, not overpowering garlic. Dip the octopus in it, and it highlights the seafood’s freshness without covering it up. We even wanted to scrape the leftover sauce off the plate with bread! The biggest surprise? Portland’s no sales tax! 🛍️ When we got the bill, I realized there was no extra tax added — and let’s be real, in other cities with sales tax, a meal that’s ~$60 per person would add an extra $4-$5 in tax. For two of us, we spent nearly $10 less than expected. That “eating delicious food and saving money” joy? It made the whole meal even better! If you’re in Portland, trust me — LeChon is worth the trip! Skip the bone marrow, focus on the beef carpaccio, steak, and grilled octopus, and with Portland’s tax-free bonus, you’ll leave full, happy, and even a little richer. 😊 #Portland #PortlandEats #PeruvianFood #PortlandFoodie #SouthAmericanTapas #PortlandDining
