Portland's Powell's City of Books – The Largest Bookstore in the US

During our Thanksgiving trip to Portland, we skipped the Black Friday crowds and chose a cozier destination: Powell's City of Books 📚. Known as a "city of books," it truly lives up to its name! It's not only the largest independent bookstore in the United States but also houses over 1 million new and used books, occupying an entire city block. From the outside, it looks modest, but once you step inside, it feels like entering a book labyrinth 🏰. The store is divided into color-coded sections, each with a clear theme: literature, history, art, children's books… It's well-organized and easy to browse. What makes it special is that new and used books are shelved together with clear price tags. Sometimes, you can even find out-of-print or rare editions at friendly prices 😊. The kids were captivated in the children's section, while I lingered in the art area. That section features large art books, limited editions, and even signed copies—a true delight for book lovers ✨. There's also a stationery zone with postcards, notebooks, and other merchandise. If you get tired, you can take a break at the in-store café ☕. If it's your first visit, remember to grab a map at the entrance 🗺️—it's easy to get lost otherwise! This place is like a treasure trove of knowledge, with surprises waiting around every corner. If you love physical books, you'll adore the experience here: flipping through pages, smelling the print, and feeling the paper—a sensation digital reading can't replace 💖. Even if you're not planning to buy anything, just soaking in the bookstore's cultural atmosphere is a joy. If you visit Portland, consider setting aside a few hours to wander slowly through this "city of books." It's more than just a bookstore—it's a place where your mind can find peace 🍃. 📍: 1005 W Burnside St, Portland, OR #PortlandTravel #BookstoreWandering #PowellsCityofBooks #IndependentBookstore #ThanksgivingBreak #FamilyTime #JoyOfReading
