Portland Food Discovery | Hidden Gem Omakase Spot: KAEDE ✨

Portland has very few restaurants that specialize in omakase (chef’s choice sushi)—so KAEDE is a total hidden treasure! I can’t even remember how I found this spot, but I’d been wanting to try it for ages. However, it has strict reservation rules that made me worried I’d never get a table: ⚠️ you must book in advance (and it’s notoriously hard to secure), reservations are only for 1-2 people (no 3-person groups allowed). They offer two seating options, and the difference is clear: Seating Type Price Key Difference Bar Counter $92 Dishes served one by one (chef-prepared right in front of you) Regular Table $80 All dishes served at once; misses 1 dish compared to the bar—only a $12 gap! They’re only open 4 days a week, evenings only, with two seatings per night (each lasts 2 hours). We arrived 15 minutes early… and almost couldn’t find the place! 😅 There’s no sign for KAEDE—some of the nearby signs say “Investment” or other businesses. The entrance is on the left as you walk in; we’d never have found it without checking photos online first. We also couldn’t sit down right away—we had to wait until our reservation time. We booked the bar counter (which only has 5 seats total), so we split our group into two 2-person reservations to fit. The meal includes: 10 pieces of nigiri sushi 🥢 3 appetizers Optional supplements (add-ons)—they’re only a few dollars each, so we got all of them! Adding $5 for extra uni (sea urchin) was such a steal—totally worth it. Drinks aren’t included, and there’s no dessert (sad face 😢). We ordered a pot of genmai tea (brown rice tea)—it was fragrant, and they refilled it for free! 🍵 Our 7:30 PM reservation started slow: the first dish didn’t come out until 7:58 PM ⏳. We finished around 9:30 PM. If you’re still hungry after the set, they also have à la carte options to add more. 🍣 Food Thoughts Appetizers: Super creative with unique flavor combinations—way more interesting than standard sushi spot apps. Nigiri: Great quality for the price (we’ve had better, but this is impressive for the cost). Our favorites were the isaki (chicken grunt fish) and the ikura (salmon roe) with extra uni—no fishiness at all, just sweet, rich flavor 😋. Handroll: Decent, but the ratio was off—too much green onion, not enough filling 🤏 . Miso Soup: Just okay, but the special touch was the pieces of fish in it (a nice upgrade from basic miso). 💡 Practical Tips Parking: Street parking only 🅿️. Service: Amazing! No mandatory tip, but the service was so good we left 20% anyway. The only downside: there’s only one chef, who has to handle both bar and table seating—so it’s a bit slow. Vibe: Perfect for dates! Small and quiet, with a cozy atmosphere ❤️. Hours: Open Thu-Sun, 5:00 PM-9:00 PM. Price: $100-$150 per person (after tip and supplements). 📍 Kaede 8268 SE 13th Ave, Portland, OR 97202 #PortlandFoodie #PortlandOmakase #OregonEats #Portland #KaedePortland #Oregon #Portland 打卡 #SushiLovers
