Portland OMSI: Dino Lego Expo is Nice, But Overall Experience is Avera

Last weekend, I took my kid to check out Portland’s OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry). We jumped on the popular Dino Lego Expo while it’s still running, but the overall experience was just so-so. Below is a first-hand guide for other parents 🧑🍼👨🍼! Highlight Recommendation: 【Dino X Lego Expo】 This is the museum’s current highlight, and it does have its draws 🎯: Several large dinosaur Lego models are on display, perfect for photo check-ins 📸; There’s a free-building area where kids can assemble Lego themselves, but the space is limited, so lines form quickly during peak hours ⏳; The content suits kids aged 3+, and those interested in dinosaurs or Lego will stay engaged 🧐. Floor Layout & Activity Tips: 【1st Floor: Science Themes + Dino Expo】 It’s great for older kids (5+) to participate in hands-on activities and understand scientific principles 🔬;The Dino Lego Expo is also on this floor, and it gets crowded—suggest entering right when the museum opens 🚪. 【2nd Floor: Kids’ Play Area】 It has a small train, climbing frames, foam blocks, etc., ideal for kids aged 2-6 to burn off energy 🚂;The layout is compact, so kids can finish playing through it quickly 🏃;Lately, many kids here have been sick (quite a few were coughing or had runny noses the day we went)—bring disinfecting wipes and wash hands frequently! 🧴 Practical Info: 【Opening Hours】: 09:30AM – 5:30PM (Suggest arriving at 10AM for a less crowded experience) Closed on Mondays ⏰. Small Tips: Head to the Lego Expo first—let kids enjoy the hands-on area when they’re most excited 😆; You can bring your own lunchbox or grab a simple meal at the museum’s small café (limited options though) 🍱; If your kid is still very young, don’t plan to stay too long. The content is somewhat academic, and adults might find it a bit boring 🥱. Summary: It’s a decent parent-kid spot for a one-time visit, but not a “must-go” 📍. The Dino Lego Expo offers good interaction for kids, and the play area lets them burn energy, but it’s crowded, noisy, and many kids have been sick lately—making the experience average. A half-day trip works best. If your kid is into science/dinosaurs/Lego, you can plan a weekend visit! 🎈 #PortlandTravel #PortlandMuseum
