Pretty But Not Worth a Special Trip — Kodo in LA 🍽️✨
Went for a fancy weekend meal with my girls in LA! Used my 30% off InKind gift card (thanks to a previous deal) plus my Amex offer that gives 50 off 150 every month as an InKind member (can’t resist a good bargain 😅). Picked Kodo, a Japanese-inspired spot in the Arts District with great vibes and solid reviews. The place was busy and beautifully designed — a smooth blend of Japanese and Western aesthetics. But the menu was surprisingly limited, and the sushi options everyone raves about online were nowhere to be found. 🍣 Crispy Tuna Roll: Everyone agreed it was just okay — nothing special. 🍝 Uni Pasta: Rich and flavorful — definitely a pass! 🐟 Miso Sea Bass: The fish was fresh and bouncy, but way too salty. 🍄 Sautéed Mushrooms (ordered randomly to fill the order): Ended up being our favorite! Perfect texture and well-seasoned. 🍰 Chocolate Cake: Dense, almost brownie-like — which I loved — but definitely too sweet. 🧾 Final bill for two (before discounts) + tip was around $175. Verdict: You can take gorgeous photos here, and the ambiance is perfect for dates. But flavor-wise and for the price, without all those discounts, I wouldn’t come back for dinner. 🫣 That said, I heard they switch to a café style during the day — maybe their lunch menu is worth a try?
