The most famous and central attraction in Nikko is Lake Chuzenji, with the best time for leaf viewing around the lake being October 24th to November 7th. 🚄 Transportation: It's very convenient to get to from Tokyo. The fastest way is by Tobu Express Limited Express, which goes directly from Asakusa Station to Nikko for 3050 yen (add 190 yen for Kinugawa; an additional 290 yen for the luxury new SPACIAx), taking 100-120 minutes with 1-3 services per hour. 🚇 Nikko Pass: Buy a 2-day or 4-day pass at Asakusa Tobu Station. The pass includes major transportation (additional cost for the Nikko Express!), local World Heritage shrines and temples in Nikko, Lake Chuzenji, free Kawa Onsen, and more. Transportation includes all Tobu bus routes in Nikko, the Edo Wonderland loop bus for sightseeing in Nikko, Kinugawa bus, and Lake Chuzenji cruise. 🚶 Itinerary: There are two main areas to explore: one is Nikko, where you can see World Heritage temples and shrines and take a cruise on Lake Chuzenji; the other is Kinugawa, where you can soak in hot springs, go rafting, and view the canyon's colorful red leaves. 🍁 Suggested Itinerary: Day 1: Shinkyo Bridge - Nikko Toshogu Shrine - Mashikoyama Viewpoint - Kegon Falls - Lake Chuzenji. This day is very packed; if you take it slow, spread it over two days. Day 2: Drift through the Kinugawa River valley, surrounded by red leaves, with a 360-degree view of the colorful canyon! Five minutes' walk from "Kinugawa Onsen" station, you can take the "Kinugawa Cruise," a 40-minute downstream ride on a gentle wooden boat. After disembarking, you can visit "Nikko Edo Wonderland," an Edo-era theme park known for its ninja shows. If you have an extra day: Leisurely activities at Lake Chuzenji, Nikko National Park. There is a natural museum by Lake Chuzenji, which acts as a "visitor center."
