Real Seafood Company -A simple seafood restaurant
Ann Arbor’s Go-To Seafood Spot – Affordable, Reliable, & Worth Repeating! This is the kind of restaurant I’ll definitely come back to—most dishes don’t miss, it’s a solid “worth trying” seafood spot, and get this: it’s probably the cheapest seafood place in the area! No fancy frills, just simple, tasty food at a great price 🦞. 🥖 Complimentary Bread: A Total Game-Changer First up, the bread—chef’s kiss! The chef said they bake it fresh in-house every day, and you can tell: it’s warm, fragrant, and so soft inside. I ate so much of it, I already filled 1/3 of my stomach before the main dishes even came 😂. Total win for bread lovers. 🦪 Apps: Squid Rings Shine, Chowder & Salad Are “Meh” Apps are a mixed bag, but one stands out: Fried Calamari Rings: 10/10, MUST-ORDER! Unlike other spots that drown calamari in thick batter, this one has a thin, light coating. The oil temperature is perfect—crispy (not overly crunchy!), not greasy, and you can actually taste the tender squid inside. So good, we almost ordered a second round. Clam Chowder: Disappointing. The seasoning is way too heavy (so salty!), and after a couple sips, I’d rather just eat the crackers on the side. No depth to the broth—total skip. House Salad: Basic classic American salad. Fresh enough, but the raw onion is super sharp (made my eyes water!), and there’s nothing special about the dressing. Just a boring pre-meal filler. 🍽️ Mains: Risotto Is the Star, Lobster & Swordfish Are Solid The mains are consistent—no surprises, just good, simple seafood: Seafood Risotto: My favorite! They’re generous with the seafood (even if it’s frozen, it still tastes fresh), and the risotto itself is perfect: creamy but not heavy (no overload of cream or cheese), soft but still has a little bite. There’s a unique, subtle spice that makes it stand out—way better than I expected. Plus, the portion is huge—enough to share (or eat as leftovers!). Lobster Tail: Decent, nothing fancy. The meat is plump, but it’s clearly not “fresh catch” (tastes like frozen, which is fine for the price). A cute little heater comes with it to keep the lobster warm, plus a small dish of butter and a side of rice. It’s exactly what you’d expect—simple, satisfying. Blackened Swordfish: Solid, considering swordfish is naturally dry. I picked the blackened style—coated in salt-pepper and a hint of spicy South American seasoning—and it works! The spice locks in the fish’s natural oils, so it’s still juicy (not rubbery). Squeeze a little lemon on top to cut through the richness—perfect. 💰 Final Verdict: Cheap, Tasty, & I’ll Be Back This spot wins for value and reliability. No over-the-top “innovations,” just well-done, simple seafood. Whether you’re craving calamari, risotto, or a casual lobster tail, it’s a safe bet—especially if you don’t want to spend a fortune. I’ll definitely be returning to try more dishes! #UniversityOfMichiganAnnArbor #AnnArborFood #AnnArbor #Seafood #AffordableSeafood #AnnArborEats #MichiganFood #CasualSeafood
