My daughter and I went here for Christmas Eve dinner last week on the recommendation of one of her colleagues. We got there on time and were seated right away. I wasn't too happy with the table which was right by the front window but we dealt wth it.
We were greeted by our server pretty quickly and he was very friendly and attentive. He asked if we've been there before and then explained the specials to us.
We ordered calamari for our appetizer. It came out quick, and hot. The calamari was crunchy and tasty, a bit on the greasy side but nothing too crazy. The calamari was a nice portion to share and it comes with a saffron aioli.
The bread the was placed on the table was warm and had a distinct flavor. My daughter felt like the bread had a seafood flavor to it and she loved it. In my opinion the flavor was good but the bread itself was too doughy.
We ordered our entrées - my daughter got the stuffed salmon and I got crab cakes. When you place your order you get to choose a side (they need better side options or more) and you can also choose a soup, salad or coleslaw. I went with the coleslaw. It tasted fresh and it was very cold. I did taste a hint of onion in it. My daughter got the clam chowder and she said it was very good. We both just got roasted red potatoes with our meal.
The salmon dish was excellent!! I tasted my daughters and it was so well cooked and seasoned. The beur blanc sauce was so delicious and so was the shrimp, mushroom, crab filling. My crabcakes were good but... I was picking out shells in between bites and they needed some kind of sauce to go over them. It was just a dry dish. They did come with a cold type of remoulade sauce but I felt like it needed something different. I will say that the crabcakes were pretty much all crab with hardly any filler so that is a plus. I guess that's why you pay $40 for 2. I wound up eating one and sending the rest home with my daughter. She took her whole dinner home because she was full from the appetizers. We both were.
My daughter also tried a glass of Moscato and she loved it.
I guess the place was fine but I've had better food that warrants 4 stars. So I'll...
Read moreI am finally getting around to posting this review I hesitate it only because it used to be such a great restaurant.
When we got there for our reservation, the restaurant smelled like it was dirty, like a dirty rug and greasy floors, the bathrooms were not clean always a great indicator of people that don’t really care about the customers comfort. We were seated. The waiter seemed pleasant enough, but very inexperienced, most likely because it’s hard to find help at this point, so we figured excuse that. There was warm bread served much later than usual almost just before the dinner came. We were told that they did not have crab which was hugely disappointing since that’s our tradition but nothing we could do about that.
We went there for my birthday on August 20. It is a family tradition for more than 20 years to go for our family birthdays and get the Crab Legs dinner. We almost always ordered the crab, stewed tomatoes, and coleslaw, this time when we went, they didn’t have the stewed tomatoes or the coleslaw, that’s fine. But what they did have was terrible. We ordered the lobster because they were having the lobster fest.
The side dishes were some sort of creamy cold potato, something. When the lobster came it was very small hardly any meat to it.
Then came some of the worst parts, the waiter broke down the lobster for me, gave me some sort of butter mixture that he said was clarified butter, but I don’t believe it because it tasted more like oil not clarified butter. I asked him why it was not served with a candle to keep the butter warm, and he said, “the candles are pretty much worn”, out at which point I thought what- they have worn out candles and they don’t replace them and this is how they serve butter now?
The whole experience was just awful. It took us forever to get the check - super over charge for a small lobster and terrible side dishes, mediocre service, and a dirty restaurant. I don’t know what happened to real seafood, but I will never go there again nor will I recommend it, and certainly will not take friends there. Such a shame it was such a great...
Read moreThe 1 star is because the food was delicious. The service was horrible. When you go out to eat, you pay for the experience, which was ruined for us because we witnessed how well other customers were treated as we were repeatedly neglected. Our waiter Eric seemed friendly and brought our drinks out right away. We ordered our appetizer as soon as he brought out the drink and asked for the bread basket which he said he would bring right out. When he came back(without the bread basket) we asked a question about one of the dishes and once he answer the question, despite us knowing what we wanted to order, we weren’t able to communicate this to him because he abruptly walked away, saying he’ll go grab our bread basket. He then walked over to the table behind us. He was still talking to the people at that table about 10 minutes later when the manager brought us our appetizer out. I asked the manager for the bread basket. Which was brought to us fairly quickly. Another near 10 minutes passed and we were done with our appetizer when Eric finally came to ask us how we were doing and we we’re finally able to order our main courses. He again said he’ll be right back out with the raw oysters(which he was not. It took another 5 minutes before he brought them out.) We then had to wait for our meals to be prepared. After waiting for another 15+ minutes I went and spoke with the manager. I told him we didn’t want to reduce Eric’s tip, because we didn’t want to encourage any bias that our waiter may possibly hold. The manager replied “I’m glad you came to talk to me because I don’t want you to reduce his tip. I’ll take care of it”. We still added a 20 percent tip, but I also added a message because of the negligent treatment. We will not be...
