Rhode Island | Eating, Drinking & Wandering in Newport š
Newport isnāt just about mansions and coastlinesāitās also a spot where you can slow down, savor good food, and stumble upon little joys. Hereās a peek at my favorite stops for eating, exploring, and soaking up the vibe: š Brenton Point State ParkThis coastal park is the spot to catch Newportās sunsets! As the sun dips low, the sky turns soft shades of orange and pink, painting the ocean in warm light š . And if youāre lucky (like I was!), you might even spot a group of Canadian geese gliding on the water or waddling along the shoreāthey add such a cute, peaceful touch to the sunset scene š¦¢. Itās the perfect place to wind down after a day of walking. š Cliffwalk & The BreakersNo trip to Newport is complete without combining two classics: a stroll along Cliff Walk and a visit to The Breakers. Start with the cliffside trailāfeel the sea breeze on your face, listen to waves crash against rocks, and peek at the grand mansions lining the path š°. Then head into The Breakers to gawk at its opulent interiors (think marble floors and gilded details)āitās like stepping back into the Gilded Age. Even just lingering outside the mansion, with the ocean in the background, makes for great photos! š Newport Chowder CompanyCraving classic New England seafood? This spot hits the mark! I ordered their Lobster Roll and Seafood Chowderāand both were delicious. The lobster roll is packed with tender, sweet lobster meat (no skimping here!) in a buttery, toasted bun š¦. The chowder is rich and creamy, loaded with clams and potatoesāwarm and comforting, perfect for a slightly chilly coastal day. Itās casual, no-fuss, and tastes like pure Newport. š The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & BarFor a more indulgent seafood feast, this place is a winner. We split a 2-person lobster bouillabaisse, Oysters Rockefeller, and Fried Calamariāand every bite was fresh. The bouillabaisse is a star: chunks of tender lobster, fish, and shellfish in a flavorful broth thatās bright and savory. The oysters are topped with a creamy, herby sauce (so rich!), and the calamari is crispy without being greasy š¦. Pro tip: Tear off pieces of the warm bread they serve and dip it in the lobster brothāitās heaven! š The Red Parrot RestaurantIf youāre in the mood for something other than seafood (though Newport does seafood best!), this spot has great options. Their Signature Swordfish Mediterranean is a standoutāgrilled swordfish served with fresh veggies and a zesty sauce, light but satisfying š . The steak is also juicy and well-cooked, with a side of crispy potatoes. The vibe is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a casual dinner. š Drift CafeFor a quick, tasty bite (or a pick-me-up coffee), Drift Cafe is my go-to. Their lattes are smooth and creamyājust the thing to kickstart a morning of exploring ā. I also tried their Hot Oatmeal Bowl (topped with fruit and nuts, warm and hearty) and Chicken B.L.A.T. (crispy bacon, fresh avocado, and tender chicken on toasted bread)āboth were delicious, and the portions are generous. Plus, the staff is super friendly, and the food comes out fastāideal for a busy day of sightseeing. š Newport in AutumnWhen fall rolls around, Newport gets even cozier. The trees along the streets turn golden and red, the air has a crisp, cool bite, and the ocean looks extra blue against the autumn sky š. Even just wandering Thames Street, with its pumpkin displays and cozy cafes, feels like stepping into a fall postcard. Itās a totally different vibe from summerāand just as charming! #RhodeIsland #RhodeIslandFood #RhodeIslandTravel #RhodeIslandGuide #RhodeIslandLife #NewportRhodeIsland #ByTheSea #Travel
