Read moreLove this beautiful park. It's truly a 5-Star place on any given day, but the kite festival seems to have outgrown the park's capacity. We returned to the festival this year on Sunday, the last day, for our 5th time. It got mobbed this year, unlike in my prior experiences.
The Park Rangers closed the lot (due to over-capacity) as we crept-up on the entrance after a long, slow traffic crawl. They waved us off to go fend for ourselves without a Plan B. What a bummer.

Wind speeds also were surprisingly low for the location, poor conditions for big super-kites. We enjoyed the beach for a few hours and then went to O'Briens Pub.
Lessons learned for next year; check marine forecast, check wind speeds, select suitable kite(s) for predicted wind conditions, launch early, anticipate high volumes of traffic and people, pack patience, small canopy, chairs, picnic, extra n/a beverages, arrive...
