Rhode Island 2-Day Itinerary | Day 2: Newport
This Newport is not the same as the one in New Jersey! Newport, RI, is a historic summer retreat for old-money families, dotted with numerous manors and grand mansions. 🚗 Transportation: Depart from Providence by car at 10:00 AM—it takes about 40–50 minutes to arrive. 🍽️ Breakfast: Arrive at Cru Cafe around 11:00 AM for a classic Brunch. A cup of cortado chased away the tiredness from waking up early, kickstarting our day of exploring mansions and coastlines ☕. 🎫 Tip for Mansion Tours: Be sure to search the official website to book tickets first. Options include “The Breakers only,” “The Breakers + 1 other mansion,” or “The Breakers + 2 other mansions.” I highly recommend choosing “The Breakers + 1” and adding Marble House—this lets you see different decoration styles and color schemes, and it fills a perfect afternoon (each mansion takes roughly 1.5 hours to tour). Note: The Breakers requires selecting a time slot; other mansions do not. 🏰 Marble House (Marble Mansion) Arrived at 12:00 PM, left at 1:30 PM—truly worth exploring! This mansion, built with extensive marble, was a birthday gift from Vanderbilt to his wife. Pink and purple hydrangeas sway in the sun throughout the garden, highlighting a delicate, feminine charm 🌸. The ’s (Alva Vanderbilt) room is a standout: the opulence of Louis XIV style—ornate decorations, exquisite carvings, and gilded details—are fully on display here. Perched on the coastal cliff is a Chinese-style Rococo tea house. Its visual impact outweighs its artistic appeal; adding a Suzhou garden pavilion here would’ve been the finishing touch to perfect the scene! 🏰 The Breakers Arrived at 1:40 PM, left at 3:00 PM. The mansion’s front entrance is understated, but the Roman columns hint at the overall style inside. Once you step into the main hall, you’ll be stunned by the extremely luxurious decor and countless rooms with distinct functions. Renaissance style runs through the entire mansion—I couldn’t help but linger in the music room and the daughter’s bedroom. But the real “wow” moment comes at the balcony: the ancient Roman-style arches frame the endless Atlantic Ocean like an oil painting 🖼️. It’s hard to imagine how refreshing a summer day would be, sitting on a chair here daydreaming… and even harder to believe this flawless building was just someone’s summer home! 🍝 Dinner: Bar ‘Cino (Italian Restaurant). The mushroom pizza was absolutely amazing! The cocktails 🍹 were also fantastic. After dinner, take a stroll along the coastal Cliff Walk—the sound of waves crashing against the rocks is incredibly relaxing 😌. Head back to New York around 6:30 PM; you won’t arrive too late. In short, Newport is a place I’d love to return to for a few more days—just to unwind and enjoy seafood! #RhodeIsland #NewportRhodeIsland #NewYorkSurroundings
