Rhode Island 2-Day Itinerary | Day 2: Newport
This Newport is not the same as the one in New Jersey! Newport, RI, is a historic summer retreat for old-money families, dotted with numerous manors and grand mansions. đ Transportation: Depart from Providence by car at 10:00 AMâit takes about 40â50 minutes to arrive. đ˝ď¸ Breakfast: Arrive at Cru Cafe around 11:00 AM for a classic Brunch. A cup of cortado chased away the tiredness from waking up early, kickstarting our day of exploring mansions and coastlines â. đŤ Tip for Mansion Tours: Be sure to search the official website to book tickets first. Options include âThe Breakers only,â âThe Breakers + 1 other mansion,â or âThe Breakers + 2 other mansions.â I highly recommend choosing âThe Breakers + 1â and adding Marble Houseâthis lets you see different decoration styles and color schemes, and it fills a perfect afternoon (each mansion takes roughly 1.5 hours to tour). Note: The Breakers requires selecting a time slot; other mansions do not. đ° Marble House (Marble Mansion) Arrived at 12:00 PM, left at 1:30 PMâtruly worth exploring! This mansion, built with extensive marble, was a birthday gift from Vanderbilt to his wife. Pink and purple hydrangeas sway in the sun throughout the garden, highlighting a delicate, feminine charm đ¸. The âs (Alva Vanderbilt) room is a standout: the opulence of Louis XIV styleâornate decorations, exquisite carvings, and gilded detailsâare fully on display here. Perched on the coastal cliff is a Chinese-style Rococo tea house. Its visual impact outweighs its artistic appeal; adding a Suzhou garden pavilion here wouldâve been the finishing touch to perfect the scene! đ° The Breakers Arrived at 1:40 PM, left at 3:00 PM. The mansionâs front entrance is understated, but the Roman columns hint at the overall style inside. Once you step into the main hall, youâll be stunned by the extremely luxurious decor and countless rooms with distinct functions. Renaissance style runs through the entire mansionâI couldnât help but linger in the music room and the daughterâs bedroom. But the real âwowâ moment comes at the balcony: the ancient Roman-style arches frame the endless Atlantic Ocean like an oil painting đźď¸. Itâs hard to imagine how refreshing a summer day would be, sitting on a chair here daydreaming⌠and even harder to believe this flawless building was just someoneâs summer home! đ Dinner: Bar âCino (Italian Restaurant). The mushroom pizza was absolutely amazing! The cocktails đš were also fantastic. After dinner, take a stroll along the coastal Cliff Walkâthe sound of waves crashing against the rocks is incredibly relaxing đ. Head back to New York around 6:30 PM; you wonât arrive too late. In short, Newport is a place Iâd love to return to for a few more daysâjust to unwind and enjoy seafood! #RhodeIsland #NewportRhodeIsland #NewYorkSurroundings
