Rhode Island PVD | Lunch at the gorgeous Gift Horse
🍺I thought my East-coast food crawl was over before I left, but while waiting for a cross-state car shipment Dad and I slipped into the famed Gift Horse. 🍺Summer specials: slabs of blue-fin tuna belly—silken, pristine sashimi touched only with sea salt and sesame oil, outrageously good! 🦪 For oysters I always stick to the Narragansett Bay natives—briny, plump perfection. 🦪 The selection changes daily—once I even scored a live scallop (still in the shell, not the pre-plated app kind), sweet and buttery; if you’re lucky enough to spot it, order it! 🍊I find the sauces pretty forgettable—just a squeeze of lemon lets the pure ocean flavor shine. Happy-hour price: $2 a pop. 🍊Gift Horse centers on raw seafood, bespoke cocktails and Korean-fusion plates—think pajeon pancakes and a bulgogi burger. 💛The signature Hae Muchim (spicy raw-fish salad), for example, re-imagines Grandma’s recipe with New England produce—sweet potato, apple, fresh local fluke—keeping the dish’s “roots” while pushing it somewhere new. #NorthAmericanLife #RhodeIsland #RhodeIslandEats
