Road Trip Through Sicily: The Mountain Citadel of Enna 🚗🏰

⛰️ Why Stop in Enna? On the 260km drive from Agrigento to Syracuse, we broke the journey in Enna—a strategic hilltop town perched at 1,000m altitude, perfectly positioned between Sicily’s coastal gems: Palermo (west) Catania (east) Syracuse (southeast) 🌄 A Fortress City Carved by History "The Impregnable": Steep cliffs made it a medieval stronghold for Greeks, Romans, Arabs & Normans. Lombardy Castle (Castello di Lombardia): Sicily’s highest fortress, with panoramic views from its towers. Once a royal palace, later a prison—now a silent witness to centuries of conquest. 🏡 Our Stay: A Cliffside Surprise Evening arrival: Winding mountain roads led us to a cozy B&B in the historic center. Dinner with a view: A restaurant on the piazza’s edge, where window seats hovered over the cliff—Calascibetta, another hilltop village, glowing in the distance. 📸 Quick Highlights ✔️ Piazza Vittorio Emanuele: Cathedral, baroque fountains, and sunset vistas. ✔️ Local vibe: Few tourists, just Sicilian nonnas chatting on benches. ✔️ Road trip magic: SP roads lined with wildflowers and ancient olive groves. #SicilyRoadTrip #Enna #HiddenItaly
